YOU GUYS a bird got inside the public library yesterday where I was doing some work and it hung out for a few hours and it was only the GREATEST DAY EVER!!!

Have you ever come across a small body of water with such an objectively absurd amount of geese in it that you wonder if there's a ring of organized criminals stealing all of the geese from everywhere as part of some kind of evil plan?

Guess which classic TV special I'm watching tonight?

This point cannot be overstressed: "Startled Linus" is peak Linus.

I'm doing my usual tech news conversation on @wgbh.org Boston Public Radio today at 12:30 Eastern! Talking about Zuck's weird thoughts about content moderation, [ghastly pun about TikTok removed by BlueSky AI moderator], and more. Listen live or later at www.wgbh.org/shows/boston... !

Reddit is pretty awesome. www.reddit.com/r/HelpMeFind...

Successfully figuring out how to get the Babel Fish in the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy text adventure game prepared me well for using chatbots. Two out of five times, when I give Gemini or ChatGPT a simple, achievable task, I find myself in Infocom Logic mode.

Have spent the past 2 hours surfing federal public records and being reminded how difficult it is to prove a negative. Research suspended while I research the new question "is my understanding about how this data is reported completely wrong?" Writing about dumb CES gadgets suddenly very attractive.

You know those reality programs about Alaskan miners, where the amount of gold they recover from like 10,000 cubic yards of dirt barely fills an insulated coffee mug halfway? Welcome to the tech news cycle during CES...

Another Emotional Maturity update: # of times I walked past the Starbucks cup someone left on the sidewalk before I did the right thing: ~11 👎 Was it a big hassle? Yes, it was half full and I knew the nearest trash can was ¼ mile off. 👍 Did I pass judgement on the litterbug the whole way? Yes 👎

In light of that story about the Washington Post spiking a political cartoon, here's a fresh story from Axios. Important to note: 1) As yet there's no proof Cook made a donation of any kind. This hasn't been corroborated. IF it's true, it's important to note: (1/4) www.axios.com/2025/01/03/t...

The streaming platform is free this weekend for anybody who has an Apple ID. I'm not here to tell you to pick this service over any other — but I can offer a little advice on how to maximize the next few days. via @lindaholmes.bsky.social

Quote-posting because it's a game-changing tool: The Worx ZipSnip rotary cutter goes through corrugated cardboard like a lightsaber. I can turn a pile of boxes into a grocery bag full of cardboard squares in no time. Despite its speed, it's super-safe. [Amazon affiliate link] amzn.to/41ZewyE

Before anybody comments about "The Streisand Effect," keep in mind that the Washington Post truly doesn't care if a million people see this cartoon. They simply don't want to attract attention from the new Ministry of Goodthink. That's the problem. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/03/b...

Amazon's shift to "gig economy" delivery drivers puts a burden on me that I resent. The driver screwed up my delivery today. The mistake was easy to make (delivered it to 123 East Elm Street, not 123 Elm), but it was a mistake they could have easily avoided if they'd looked at the map pin. (1/?)

Obviously the @comicraft1992.bsky.social catalogue includes lots of comic book lettering fonts. "Monologous" is a timeless style and VERY useful. I often indulge a whim to re-letter a classic comic panel. Apologies to…well, lots of people. #comicraftsale www.comicbookfonts.com/Monologous-f...
