"[T]he UK [is] the only European country to issue licences without any visual checks for a continuous period up to the age of 70." EXCUSE ME, WHAT? THIS IS BONKERS.

A great 'false friend' in English/Italian is 'fastidious' vs 'fastidioso': while the former means "extremely or excessively careful or detailed" (Merriam-Webster), the latter means "annoying".

The US is off the scale at the moment, but let's not forget about what goes on in the UK.

#NowListening to this, which I already listen to a couple of times, I really enjoy it!

When the audience at Queen's Hall reacted half-heartedly to the first performance of his Symphony No. 2, Edward Elgar, who was conducting, turned to William Reed, leader of the LSO, and asked: "What's the matter with them, Billy? They sit there like a lot of stuffed pigs."

Guys, I love all of you, but the answer to RFK, Jr. is not that autistic adults hold jobs, pay taxes, and get laid, it's that everyone deserves to live even if they can't work, pay taxes, or get laid.

Everybody is a potential criminal, if it only takes the State to label you as one. That's why you need due process.

didn't take much for these guys to go from "big government is bad" to "what's the big deal if you're abducted by the government and trafficked to Mongolia"

Imagining if living in car-free or car-lite communities were as aspirational as car ownership.

And my habit of cycling to work is hurting the fuel economy, I guess.

I just read someone (a random person on here tbh) refer to Wagner's operas as "Wagner's plays"

"When told that they would all be shot Unless they left the service, That hero hesitated not, So marvellous his nerve is. He sent his resignation in, The first of all his corps, O! That very knowing, Overflowing, Easy-going Paladin, The Duke of Plaza-Toro!" www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZSn...

🤯

Awful.

I repeat myself, but AI would be better than Telegraph columnists.

Few things are more boring than the recurring online arguments about how bad British food supposedly is, with the tired cliché that many love to repeat that "British people eat as if the Germans are still flying overhead". The only limitation of British food is in variety, but otherwise it's good.

So now "advocating for due process" (!) makes you a terrorist in the US.

Pathological (and complicit) levels of both-sides-ism.

"Freedom of speech in universities takes on a new meaning" shameful framing by NPR.

Ci pigliano per il culo, non c'è altra spiegazione.

Evening music #nowlistening

Sounds pretty good to me

"Woke with right-wing characteristics"

Fair.

This question is essentially pointless unless people are also polled on *how* they would like it to work. Would it apply to under 18s? If so would teenagers have to carry ID to show exemption? Would cyclists have to carry proof of license? The whole idea is bonkers, which is why no one does it.

I'm not a big fan (to put it mildly) of using gen AI to write texts, but it would certainly do better than your average Daily Telegraph opinion writer.

72% of the public? That's crazy.

Sempre meglio neoprimitivo (?) che (neo)fascista.

One of my favourite film scenes www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bLF...

"Water polo - isn't that terribly dangerous?" "I'll say. I had two ponies drowned under me."
