young men don’t need a “left Joe Rogan” they need sports betting regulation

Chair Comer denied our request for an official trip to El Salvador to advocate for due process and the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Pretty shameful. Good thing I don’t need Comer’s permission to get on a plane.

@raskin.house.gov: “We learned from the last century that you cannot appease fascists and authoritarians… The reason Franklin Roosevelt said ‘There's nothing to fear but fear itself’ is he knew that people had to feel afraid, but then keep going. And that's what courage is.”

Stop disappointing your hair stylist by asking for "just a trim" every month. Next time bring in this picture and ask for the Tessa - flowing snowy white mane with bold black streaks. 💅

Easy to say we're good at tactics / bad at strategy but the problem is elected officials who need to be ignored or replaced. Operatives with modern, conflict-based, attention-driven vision can't impose strategy on rich people and party leaders who disagree with us. www.fwiw.news/p/democrats-...

I've covered Van Hollen since circa 1999. He's actually not a "grandstander." In his first Congressional bid, he was the workhorse vs the showhorse. He out-hustled Mark Shriver who had far more money and had been on the cover of Time Magazine as a next-gen Kennedy. He won with an army of volunteers.

Van Hollen really deserves a look in 2028 if he wants it and keeps up the good work. Really appreciate @vanhollen.senate.gov treating the American public like we're adults who deserve information and can handle uncomfortable truths. Thank you, Senator!

This is going to sweep up U.S. citizens, too. Dragnets always do.

Let's fucking goooooo.

This is happening at the Bluebonnet detention center in Anson, TX and appears to be in DIRECT VIOLATION of the Supreme Court's ruling requiring notice "afforded within a reasonable time and in such a manner as will allow them to actually seek habeas relief." It's been <24 hours.

“'Every day I worry they could take my mom,' Ximena, 11 — who was born in California & whose Mexican mother has lived in the United States for decades — said before breaking into tears." "Trump’s determination to use immigration power as a limitless weapon to intimidate and imprison his enemies is not just a manifestation of his character. It is the most frightening element of his administration’s plan to crush liberal democracy itself." www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

I saw some pretty insane stats a while back, the jobs-protected-to-cost-to-everyone-else ratio of tariffs is almost always insane, and that's just as a first-order effect. That's not even taking into account opportunity costs and other second-order considerations.

A co-worker of mine (who is a judge), traveled by train from Montana to North Dakota for work this week. The train made a stop in Havre, MT, where ICE agents—armed and dressed in full military-style tactical gear—boarded the train.

This is one of the biggest things I took away from journalism school. "300 deported illegally" is a statistic and people can't connect with it. "omg look at this poor man who didn't even do anything wrong!" is an emotional narrative that shows what those numbers *mean*

Good morning. Take a breath. We have a long way to go.

In Mahmoud Khalil's letter from ICE detention in Louisiana, he cites Japanese American incarceration and Mitsuye Endo, who was incarcerated in the Tule Lake concentration camp, and whose case before the Supreme Court led to the closing of the camps. Read his letter here: t.ly/A04cc

The anti-immigrant animus comes also from David Shor, who's been using 'data' to drive it. Two of the most toxic people in the Democratic party in years.

Covers for @uaw.org film catalogs, circa 1950s. Long before YouTube, the union sent educational film reels across the continent so union locals could host showings for rank-and-file members. Topics ranged from The New Deal to civil rights. From the UAW Publications at @reutherlibrary.bsky.social.🎞️

There is no deep popular opposition to immigration, just a successful scapegoating campaign. Now revulsion at what anti-immigrant measures mean in practice, creates an opportunity to shift the conversation in favor of immigration. Excellent from @ryanlcooper.com. prospect.org/politics/202...

🚨News: A prominent author reached out to me about how the Trump administration tried to denaturalize her father-in-law and end his social security benefits and Medicare. Her family speaks English and was able advocate for him. But what about those that can’t?

NEW: A deportation case exposes a rift among Democrats over how to take on Trump One camp sees a pivotal moment to lean in and fight a lawless move. Another camp sees a trap and wants to pivot to hitting Trump on his growing economic vulnerability. www.nbcnews.com/politics/imm...

Trump’s dumb trade war has left millions of Americans afraid for their jobs and futures. Instead of enabling him, Congressional Republicans need to end his tariff chaos. I’ve got a bill to make that happen.

It's like they looked at individual bureaucratic errors and thought "how can we use technology to bring this to scale?"

It's getting very hard to avoid the conclusion that a major problem with the Democratic Party right now is that its consultancy and other agenda-defining members more or less agree with Republicans on immigration

First post here on Blue Sky! Foreign aid is foreign policy. When the U.S. treats it as disposable, it loses a key tool of influence and credibility. My latest on how aid has been used as leverage—and what’s at stake when that leverage disappears: #foreignpolicy #foreignaid #uspolitics
