There are just a few days left until our annual seed swap this Sunday (2 to 4pm at St John's URC, EN5 1RH)! Could 2025 be the year you grow more of your own food? πŸ₯”NEW for 2025 - We'll be trialling selling a few seed potatoes for the first time. Come early to avoid disappointment.πŸ₯”

I think I could watch the @kneppwilding.bsky.social White Stork Cam for hours 😍

These guys seem to have got lost on their way to the pond #GetABroom 🐸🐸

After my MP @dantomlinson.bsky.social mentioned US farmer Wendell Berry, I enjoyed listening to this podcast from 2017 (sadly not much has improved!). @herdyshepherd.bsky.social is probably my UK equivalent. Any other recommendations for MPs to find out about nature-friendly farming in the UK?

I really enjoyed being part of the post film Q&A panel at this @jewishvegsoc.bsky.social event a few weeks ago. Six Inches of Soil is an eye opening film, so do check out screenings near you at www.sixinchesofsoil.org/screeningdates if you've not already seen it.

Pleased to see Barnet council getting some help from the government. Maybe now it can scrap its negative changes to the council tax support scheme, so that the poorer members of our community are not penalised πŸ€” @sradford22.bsky.social @barnetfoodbank.bsky.social

Happy #RealBreadWeek There's nothing better than real bread! Wanna eat better bread? You can either: 🍞Buy from a local bakery 🍞Make your own by hand 🍞Make your own in a machine My trusty Panasonic 2500 has lasted over 10 years and gets used weekly πŸ˜‹

Thanks to @dantomlinson.bsky.social for joining us at this environment Q&A a few weeks ago. Green growth came up a lot in our discussion about how the UK's going to meet its climate obligations. Now's the time for our gov to up its game! @barnetfoe.bsky.social #ClimateGrief #ThinkGlobalActLocal

Happy #WorldPulsesDay! This Ottolenghi recipe is one of my current faves (with tinned toms, half the olive oil and herbs only when available homegrown) πŸ˜‹ ottolenghi.co.uk/pages/recipe...

Can the humble bean help save the world? Happy #WorldPulsesDay! It's a good day to check out our video collaboration with BBC Ideas & @socsci.ox.ac.uk which highlights just how beans might help solve our interconnected climate and food systems challenges. Watch: tabledebates.org/essay/table-...

An Incredible Seed Swap, you say? 🌱 Tell me more. See πŸ‘‡

I'm looking forward to the long awaited Land Use Framework Consultation taking up lots of my feed today. The range of orgs quoted in this press release show what a wide reaching, and essential, subject it is. @dantomlinson.bsky.social Welcome to Bluesky! Would love to talk to you about this.

If, like me, you sometimes need a shove-in-the-oven healthy meat-free meal, sadly I do NOT recommend this one. It sounds good at 282 calories but it comes at the cost of protein / energy with a poor % of lentils in this "lentil cottage pie". Would you like to guess the %? (Spoiler: it's in pic 2)

I had the pleasure of chairing a @barnetfoe.bsky.social event on Friday with our new MP for Chipping Barnet, @dantomlinson.bsky.social. I've attached my intro and the question I asked about food (which was followed by Qs on air pollution, biodiversity, housing, waste & more). #ThinkGlobalActLocal

How many of these are you going to mark off for your #BigGardenBirdwatch?

Settling in for our quarterly Barnet Food Partnership meeting with all of these wonderful folks at NW7hub. I love chatting about local food solutions and how we can all feed in!

Here’s some rubbish news for you: our society wastes a lot. And here’s some better news: the North London Waste Authority is consulting on improving things. Ask for ambition + have your say here: bit.ly/4g50LSv. Use our analysis in your response: bit.ly/42nNtNS

My marvellous hubby's book is just 99p for one week only. You're welcome!

Have you signed up for the @rspb.bsky.social #BigGardenBirdwatch on 24-26 Jan yet? πŸͺΊπŸ€πŸ¦…

This is a nice article although I'm surprised to see food mentioned only once. When agriculture is 70% of the UK's land mass, supporting nature friendly regenerative farming could make a big difference to diversity in particular.

Very excited to be heading to my first #ORFC tomorrow. I'm hoping to get some inspiration on how to use my food growing energy to its best potential and the line up looks really inspiring! Will any other Barnet bods or Incredible Edible folk be there to try and say hi? #ORFC #ORFC25

The amazing local charity, Citizens Advice Barnet, has a Christmas appeal running this week. It's been another tough year for many in Barnet - including Iris (see her story in the link). CAB's services are stretched to the max so, if you might have a few Β£ to spare, your support is appreciated πŸ™πŸ‘‡
