46% of those who voted in the local elections in #Lambeth did NOT vote Labour, yet Lambeth Labour have 90% of councillors; over 80% of officer support & committee seats & 97% of extra allowances. These proportions are undemocratic & why single party councils offer less value for money

It is striking—and deeply orientalist—that only non-European countries are expected to constantly defend themselves against the charge of imperfection, as if perfection were a prerequisite for legitimacy. No nation is without flaws, yet it is only the Global South that must endlessly justify itself.

For a long time before this a bit of scepticism was due about what quite possibly are wildly inflated valuations of individual and corporate wealth pumped up by an unsustainable stock market bubble that Trump accidentally crashed a bit earlier than would have happened anyway

Just seen an Instagram post recommending women do gig economy work like Evri delivery while on maternity leave, to top up their statutory maternity pay. The comments are full of women exchanging panicked tips about how to survive. That tells you everything you need to know about the provision!

More “difficult decisions.” Seems to me that politicians find it all too easy to make the decisions to cut services or support for lowest 10% percentile, but next to impossible to tax top 1%. Defies democratic logic: how many voters in each percentile?
