Some photos from the film showing “Children of the War” at the historic Manila Metropolitan Theater this afternoon.

I ran out of words to use for discussing EDSA years ago, back when I had a blog. The long & short of it is we squandered what gains we got. The folks who remember are getting older & slowly shuffling off the mortal coil. In the face of wealthy, powerfully motivated lobbies, we must NOT forget.

#TodayinHistory in 1986, the human barricades across the intersection of Ortigas Ave. & EDSA forced the 12 tanks sent by dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. to pull back. It’s the 2nd Day of the EDSA People Power Revolution in the Philippines. www.facebook.com/share/p/12G6... #Edusky #democracy

Tomorrow at the historic Manila Metropolitan Theater:

#TodayinHistory in 1986, Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile and AFP Vice Chief-of-Staff Fidel V. Ramos defected from the Marcos dictatorship. Jaime Cardinal Sin made a historic call over radio, urging the Filipino people to protect the defectors. www.facebook.com/share/p/1A3k... #Edusky #EDSA39

He doesn’t want me to work on my history paper 😭

I guess this means that I can now add mass media writer to my resumé? Here is my first article for @philstartech.bsky.social, the technology section of the Philippine Star. Thanks @jayveef.bsky.social for the invitation! philstartech.com/news/feature...

Since finding out 4 days ago that PapaKape has opened its branch in Luneta, I’ve been advertising to my officemates in the National Historical Commission of the Philippines to go there to experience GOOD coffee, and god I don’t want them to ever close shop. All photos were taken todayyyy. 🥺☕️

The power to destroy a thing is the absolute control over it.

We refuse to forget. #EDSA39 #PeoplePower

#TodayinHistory in 1942, during the Japanese invasion, Philippine Pres. Manuel Quezon, War Cabinet & Chief Justice José Abad Santos left Corregidor aboard the submarine USS Swordfish. This marked the 1st step in what would become the Philippine govt-in-exile. www.facebook.com/share/1T4hKT... #Edusky

Here’s a sneak peek at the 3rd & final installment of Jerrold Tarog’s biopic trilogy, featuring Manuel L. Quezon, the 2nd President of the Philippines. I must say, the casting is spot on! ✨ Now, I just need to hear Jericho Rosales deliver Quezon’s legendary Spanish expletives to become a believer.

I’d rather watch reruns of The West Wing than hear anything about the Trump 2.0 shitshow.

#TodayinHistory in 1886, José Abad Santos, 5th Chief Justice of the Philippines, was born in San Fernando, Pampanga. Martyred by the Japanese during #WWII for refusing to swear fealty to Japan, he is remembered for his patriotism & committment to justice. www.facebook.com/share/p/18jJ... #Edusky

Apologies for this lapse. The birth anniversary of Jose Abad Santos is TODAY, 19 February, and not yesterday. I will be reposting this in a few minutes with the correct pubmat. Please accept my apology. I remain committed to delivering you accurate & insightful historical info.

NEW: Last week’s newsletter had ‘IT’S A COUP’ in big red letters on front page of NYT. Well, guess what? It still is. We have to stop framing what’s happening as in any way normal. It’s a coup & a collapse in the international order & none of this is ‘normal’ broligarchy.substack.com/p/us-coup-ga...

Seeing if this works: posting to X, Bluesky and Instagram all at once!

It’s a dream to plant these in my own backyard garden, but I don’t even know if replicating the conditions of a rainforest is possible. :(

Ukraine and Europe must be part of any negotiations - a joint statement by Ministers of Foreign Affairs of France, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, EEAS, and European Commission. Full text of the statement: "We are ready to enhance our support for Ukraine.

This historic betrayal will be remembered, and it will be difficult for the United States to regain the trust that it has broken. I pray for the people of Ukraine, that they continue to hold fast to their sovereignty as a nation. Ukraine is not alone.
