Oh, just sitting outside with the dog, eating a salad for dinner, after biking the long way home into a serious headwind. But new bike shoes, so a good day. And it’s sunny too.

Couldn't we just rescind the tax-exempt status of the billionaire oligarchs instead? I think they have more money and certainly provide less value to society.

This is exactly right. Every time I write something in a widely circulated popular venue, I get not only these emails but even paper letters liked this, often on postcards, typed with old typewriters and annotated heavily in pen.

Warning: bicycle content I finally broke down and bought a new pair of cycling shoes. My old ones were wearing out and my old feet have gotten bigger. I wear mountain biking shoes because easier for longer time and to walk around. Still pretty at the moment and they make me happy. Yay bikes!

I just landed in San Salvador a little while ago, and I look forward to meeting with the team at the U.S. embassy to discuss the release of Mr. Abrego Garcia. I also hope to meet with Salvadoran officials and with Kilmar himself. He was illegally abducted and needs to come home.

Imagine you spent the last decade building a career around being wrong abt the gravest threats to speech in America. When this becomes clear, you could a) either admit it, or b) relabel the threats to say that you were right all along. You'll never guess which route Thomas Chatterton Williams took!

Way to go Steve Kerr. Speaking plainly about the importance of academic freedom and praising Harvard for standing up to the bully. I already like the Warriors, but more so now. Now if all university leaders could speak so directly and clearly.

Some stats from 100 days in on congestion pricing: - Complaints about car-honking are down 70% - The Holland Tunnel has 65% fewer delays at rush hour; time to get thru it is down 48% - 6 million fewer cars - Half as many traffic-related injuries - 1.5 million more visitors to BIDs year over year

Let’s be clear. When the President defies the Supreme Court, it is the role of Congress to remove him from office. Full stop.

Space, and doing Space Stuff, enjoys some of the most incredible cultural cachet going and billionaires are actually so toxic that they can't even get Cool from Space

A fascist leader pretends to be a "strong man" by gulagging people in foreign nations, but then claims he's too weak to retrieve them. One of those things isn't true, prima facie. 😱

In both-sides journalism, journalists may work hard to find someone who will hold a position. Often that person doesn't have the expertise that allows them to make reasonable claims. But that hasn't generally stopped both-sides journalism. Happened in climate change. Happening now with tariffs.

New from @dataforprogress.org: Voters across parties say legal residents, Including visa and green card holders, should have due process of law. www.dataforprogress.org/blog/2025/4/...

Here's a description of the Russian attempted access to NLRB from the whistleblower complaint. whistlebloweraid.org/wp-content/u...

Just sent off my taxes and this year I'm extra resentful because all the stuff I don't mind paying for has been nuked by elon and his cadre of hitler youth. Now I'm paying for trump's golf trips and pancake makeup instead of the NEH and public transportation

Every chance you get, say “fuck you” to authoritarian demands. One of the regime’s tools is making people believe resistance is futile—that acquiescence is the only option. But especially for those with power and privilege, the most basic, necessary act is to say: FUCK YOU.

The Trump demands to Harvard go much further than anything I had seen at Penn, Columbia, Johns Hopkins In an astounding letter, one section stands out: "Viewpoint Diversity in Admissions and Hiring" 1/N

Short but very disturbing thread

Brilliant. Emphasizes what our higher education systems do for everyone.

We are finally having spring in the Pacific Northwest. Our deciduous magnolias are blooming. At least there is beauty in the world and I strive to look towards that every day.

Dear @schumer.senate.gov, the public is protesting. But to make movements larger, elected officials must also take action. The public will not fully rise up unless democratic leaders become explicit and make sure Congress is shut down. Get to work now.

Bone chilling. A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0. 1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.

The Nazis had overseers for every academic department and institute. They fired people who didn’t agree with their positions and they fired all people of Jewish background. Wolfgang Kohler, the last person to publish something critical of Nazis tried to stop the interference in his institute. 1/2

Could this be insider trading? Just asking questions, as one does.

New from me: an essay on the House UnAmerican Activities Committee, and its remarkable 30 year history of witch hunts & blacklists. It chronicles the progression of how industries & academia went from capitulation to defiance,& what we can take from that today www.lawfaremedia.org/article/proc...

And if you’re a politician who wants to push these numbers, you can’t just talk about the failures or how you would deport people less badly. Give a different frame and narrative. You need to highlight the moral failures. You need to praise immigrants and value people. Take the moral high ground.
