Dromeosaurs.

Food.

Stop using AI. Yes, even just for fun. AI is built on STOLEN images and text. That’s right: by using it, you’re stealing from your friends. There is NOT ethical generative AI. Bonus bullshit: it is HORRENOUS for the environment. (Yes, even the cutesy profile photo cartoon things.)

Easily the best part of the Kaiyodo Figure Museum Kurokabe we’re the various dioramas scattered throughout. These ones with dinosaurs and other paleofauna were my favorites: - Triceratops and Styracosaurus - Ankylosaurs at night - Parasaurolophus feeding - T.Rex canyon (1/7)

Spent much of my penultimate day in Japan last Friday riding the Shinkansen to Nagahama and visiting the second Kaiyodo Figure Museum. The exhibits in this one was just, if not slightly more impressive than the one in Osaka. Here’s a few from their catalog for Godzilla. (1/6)

Some pics of the dioramas at the Kaiyodo Figure Museum at Miraiza Osaka. The section on prehistoric life was fantastic, starting with reanimated Hallucigenia, Anomalocaris and Opabinia at the Burgess Shale Quarry, and an epic scene of an Allosaurus chasing a herd of Camarasaurus in a storm. (1/7)

Before I left Osaka for my final hotel in Tokyo on Thursday, I visited the Kaiyodo Figure Museum Miraiza near Osaka Castle. Calling it incredible would be an understatement. I’ll post more of it later, but here’s a thread of some highlights 🧵(1/16)

pickman's daughter

Been working on King Tyrant promotional stuff today - continuing that with a #FossilFriday #paleoart post. Here's two T. mcraeensis (because of geography) alongside a motherflippin' volcano, because the old artists were right: SOME TYRANNOSAURUS ACTUALLY LIVED NEXT TO BIG VOLCANOES. #KABOOM! #sciart

Please don't use trans folks as a reason to maintain hopelessness. Your empathy isn't bad, but I'm not benefitted by those spiraling into cynical inaction. That's the WORST thing to do for folks like me. Either let it motivate you to assist with change, or encourage others to.

Here's a tribute I made to Studio Ghibli's 'Spirited Away', a film that I watched many times with my daughter during her childhood. #illustration #ghibli #spiritedaway #art

Silly scribble before sketching

I started my final day in Japan last Saturday riding the Shinkansen early to visit the Joetsu Science Museum. A dated but charming place, many of the exhibits felt very 80s. One of the newer displays had an awesome animatronic T.Rex by Kokoro, plus a cast of Stan’s skull. (1/7)

After visiting Nagahama last Friday, I took a ride back to Tokyo to try and check out the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. Sadly, I got there to late and they were already closing by the time I arrived. At least I got a few shots of the entrance and that Totoro plush at the ticket booth. Oh well 🤷

I’m so excited for this, it’s wonderful seeing how many high quality palaeontology documentaries we’re getting in such a short span of time. Congratulations to everyone involved in this project, it looks fantastic and I can’t wait to see more.

Minor complaints about the animation aside, I am quite liking what I see so far! Sauropod nasal sacks, Gastonia infraspecific combat, Spinosaurus social/parental behavior, AND a T.rex/Triceratops fight? HELLS YEAH I'M READY!

I'm so excited for the world to see what we've been working on. It is such a genuine joy to see my babies out in the world! Walking with Dinosaurs - coming soon.

A painting of Crow T. Robot from 2022. I was just learning how to do oils, so this was one of my first attempts at an oil painting. I sold it the next year. #mst3k #crowtrobot #oilpainting #traditionalart #painting

Some absolutely kickass dioramas based on the Godzilla films from the Kaiyodo Figure Museum Kurokabe, in Nagahama. The ones from Osaka were impressive, but these were much, much bigger and thus had more space for more elaborate staging. And man did they ever pull it off.

Today's random piece of nostalgic palaeoart: Mark Hallett's Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops! This is a real classic, featuring prominently in the dinosaur issue of Zoobooks. It was published widely throughout the 90s and 2000s, and was usually a good indicator of a quality dinosaur book. (1/4)

At last, the wait is finally ending…
