As someone who lost far too much of their life to bullying parents, no amount of “I love you”s held the weight of a “fuck off.” I know that the government is supposed to care for us. A lot of caregivers fail, or are simply not interested. Consider this a “re-governing yourself.”

It's confusing & upsetting when a relationship that isn't particularly bad triggers us. Someone doesn't need to be an abuser & a connection doesn't need to be toxic for them to push the wrong buttons in our nervous system-- but we still have to manage our reactions & boundaries.

The thing about school sports is that they are *supposed* to exist so that students can have fun, be physically active, make friends, and learn to play on a team. They are part of *school*, and they are not meant to exist to be parental ego crutches, moneymakers, or career tracks.
