@peterbakernyt.bsky.social pulling zero punches: Trump’s Pivot Toward Putin’s Russia Upends Generations of U.S. Policy www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

Kash Patel is reportedly covertly directing the firing of career agents at the FBI. Patel seems to be the puppet master removing experienced agents & undercutting the FBI’s ability to identify threats & keep Americans out of harm’s way.

Many Americans chose not to believe what they were saying. Will we now believe what we are seeing? My latest for @nytopinion.nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/o...

Hi, I myself—and my countless centrist, dedicated, patriotic USAID colleagues—are the people he is referring to. Sounds like a wise, mature, discerning person we can all trust to adjudicate the legality of his own acts in secret, and his own conflicts of interest as a vast government contractor.

Not for nothing, but announcing that the US is taking over Gaza the same week you’re neutering the FBI’s entire counterterrorism program isn’t that smart from a security perspective.

This is the logical culmination of the Courts' campaign-finance jurisprudence: Billionaires successfully threatening to spend overwhelming sums of money against reluctant GOP Senators unless they confirm (among others) a man who is a clear-and-present danger to public health.

NEW: Sources tell my office that Treasury Secretary Bessent has granted DOGE *full* access to this system. Social Security and Medicare benefits, grants, payments to government contractors, including those that compete directly with Musk's own companies. All of it.

@corybooker.com hello I used to run the Wendy’s Twitter account and I am begging you to let me help you with the dems social media strategy, I will literally do it for free at this point

This is a *remarkable* message. Although phrased politely and with no hint of disobedience, Acting FBI Director Driscoll is making clear to all that he's not onboard with Trump's purge. I would expect him to be removed from his position if they can find someone more willing to do Trump's bidding.

The Constitution is written, as its first seven words provide, on behalf of "we the people of the United States." The people are sovereign. We elect 537 representatives to exercise our sovereignty in the federal government. The President is the most powerful of them, but he's not sovereign himself.

Gitmo already has a migrant detention center. How many people knew that before yesterday? Trump hasn't even secured funding for this facility and it's possible he never will.

THREAD: So what did The NYT learn as it dug deeper into the $Trump family crypto play? Here is a look at some of the new things we turned up. First, here a free link to the story David Yaffe Bellany and I posted this morning. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/25/u...

Via Politico: The Council of Inspectors General say Trump’s attempted purge is NOT “legally sufficient to dismiss” IGs, because it clearly violates federal law. Suggests that at least some IGs will attempt to remain at their posts. Get ready for a court battle.
