Mai'n Dydd Gwyl Dewi | it's St David's Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Which means it's time for y'all to learn some Welsh to use in your daily life. Today's word is: Socsan (slang) Socsan is a word for that deeply unpleasant experience when your socks get wet. Used in the sense of "Oh no I've got a socsan"

Currently on my way to Manchester to discuss all things law and language, and as per usual I will be showing off with (partially) trilingual slides.

I feel dumber for having read the Bill for this.

"You need to be able to speak the language of the people you serve/teach" isn't really an unreasonable requirement for a job.

Suffice to say, I'm rather excited about this. #steelers

If you would like to try something new today, listen to some music 'yn Gymraeg' I'd personally recommend I Fight Lions or Candelas for those who enjoy indie/rock.

My mam and sister called to ask me: "Do you know anything about public law?" ... Glad to know they pay attention when I talk about my work...

Advertising this great event, which being me I will of course be presenting at, at the University of Salford next month. If you are interested in law and/or languages, registration is now open through the following link: forms.office.com/e/7LNZzqANp2. Details on the poster below!

OpenAI accusing anyone else of intellectual property theft is the funniest thing you will read all week

Dydd Santes Dwynwen hapus! Often called the "Welsh Valentine's Day", Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of love, and she is celebrated annually in particular on beautiful Ynys Llanddwyn (pictured in the art below). #cymru #wales

Great response to the Government wanting (not for the first time) to restrict JR based on very little supporting evidence that JRs are becoming more prevalent - even when limited to a specific topic.

I'll soon be preparing for my PhD viva, which means if any public lawyers/academics would be interested in a talk or seminar on comparative research in judicial review, I'd be delighted for the opportunity to present and receive some comments. ANOVA results graph included for interest!

Happy to say registration for this year’s online Administrative Law & Governance Colloquium on “Justifying Judicial Review” is now open. Featuring: Jason Allen, Paolo Sandro, Roberto Gargarella, Aileen Kavanagh, Rosalind Dixon and Cora Chan. Sign up below! www.eventbrite.ca/e/administra...

Because I need to cleachtadh mó chuid Gaeilge. A short summary of my recent research - in Irish. Tá mo pháipéar faoi chearta teanga amach ar líne anois, cheap mé go scríobh achoimre ar na torthaí as Gaeilge. Tá bron orm, mar is foghlaimeoir mé, ní bheidh Gaeilge foirfe agam san achoimre seo. 1/

Love to see the Galway Hookers lit up in #gaillimh

This is a key part of this new survey: "relatively few people perceived their problem as a legal problem at the outset (11%)" In my field, public law, far too many don't realise that their issue with a public authority is a legal issue - with a potential legal remedy available. 1/

With my PhD submitted, viva imminent, and only a short time left in my current role. Anyone know of any vacancies coming up? Happy to consider academic roles, public sector, NGOs, or any other industry requiring a legal researcher. Ideally on the island of Ireland, or flexible/remote posts.

Of interest: My paper on legislating language rights, and the efficacy of which on language preservation in Ireland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, is now available online at the following link (pg223). www.lawreview.nuigalway.ie/s/FINAL-FINA...

Nadolig Llawen i chi gyd Nollaig shona daoibh Merry Christmas

And that's the PhD thesis submitted. It's a Christmas miracle.

Devastated. Pálás has been a fantastic venue, part of that very Galway spirit.

Other countries: Let's have a winter celebration and exchange gifts Wales: beat this creepy undead horse in a rap battle or it'll steal your stuff

May be biased here, but I can assure anyone thinking about it that completing a PhD with @mckeevergrainne.bsky.social, and at Ulster University generally, is a fantastic experience.

"Hey Liam, what's your music taste like?" I'm yet another public lawyer Swiftie (there are dozens of us). But also found in various mosh pits.

"Intellectually grounded but whimsically off-kilter". Sounds just like my secondary school teachers report.

Sometimes, you read something and it instantly cures any imposter syndrome you are feeling that day.

Well that makes my my new article particularly relevant today.

Absolutely well-deserved. UU has been excellent at every point of my time there.

Can't beat a mince pie, cup of tea, and a read of your own award-winning article on language rights.

A large part of my research appears to be saying that being Welsh means you're less likely to litigate. A "cultural deference to authority". Admittedly, it's not the most fun Welsh trait.

Channelling my "zoomies" manic energy tonight into writing an entire chapter in an evening. Will it make any sense when I read it tomorrow morning? Let's hope so.

Having lived in the vicinity of Crib Goch for most of my life, virtually everyone I know who has climbed it said "Nah, not doing that again" immediately afterward.
