At least one thing is ready for #LPSC2025 Though I'm sad I won't see some people I'd hoped to.

Added Asteroids and Comets to my sticker order for #LPSC2025 Also Space is for Everyone, Venus is Just Alright, and a few more - including some vintage stickers from year(s) past. This doesn't even count the new batch from OVEN. I (and some designated sticker elves) will have 100s of stickers

The Planetary Society strongly opposes the sudden, indiscriminate dismissal of more than 1,000 scientists, engineers, and explorers at NASA — the largest involuntary workforce reduction since the end of the Apollo program. Read more on our stance. ⬇️

It keeps on feeling like the wheels are coming off, so I look for something grounding. I've made a new shirt design for LPSC every year since just before covid. Here is this year's. I think it makes #6.

NASA folks in #planetaryscience - I'm trying to put together a network who can help our colleagues through RIFs on Tuesday. This is an EMERGENCY: Reports say that NASA probationary employees will be fired on Tuesday.

The Venus Exploration Analysis Group (VEXAG), like the rest of the NASA AGs is still currently on pause, and is therefore unlikely to be able to hold its planned Town Hall at #LPSC2025. However, there WILL be an independent non-AG Venus Exploration Community Interest Meeting. March 12, 2025 12:00 CT

Here is my first roster of #PridePlanet #LPSC2025 stickers. V3NUS is locked in - a reprise from last year, but I'm happy to crowdsource alt fonts - and additional bodies/planetary themes if people are interested. Reply or DM. I do it out of pocket so support for a bigger run is always appreciated.

Not much chatter on #LPSC205 yet. At least not on my feed. Probably last one in Houston for a while. Could be last one in its present form, given ch-ch-ch-changes. This year will have the customary Venuswag in sticker form (ribbon sourcing got Overtaken by Events). But also Pride Planets.

Elon Musk has destroyed his chance of sending humans to Mars. He'll be arrested, imprisoned, offed, or he'll have destroyed so much of the techno-industrial-economic base of this country he won't have the resources one way or another, despite all his riches.

Friends, I've been thinking about this for a few years now, but the events this week have made it clear that now is the time. It's time to work to establish a professional planetary science society in the United States. A 🧵

I wrote this for NaPoWriMo in 2014, and it came back to mind unbidden in the events of the last week and day. Especially now: Never lose your sense of wonder. Never let anyone take the passion to *know* away from you. Never let anyone stop you from asking. Jump.

I can't help but feel we're five minutes away from someone in the administration wanting to demote Venus from planet status because of DEI.

There are days I wish the #MurderPlanets were real, and enlist-able.

A toast to my fellow frozen science siblings. May we live to see the other side.

In light of this deeply illegal activity at NSF and the ongoing attack on American science, I'm posting the slides from my 2017 talk at the American Physical Society about the Nazi take over of German physics/why German is no longer science's lingua franca 🧪 🧵 1/26 drive.google.com/file/d/1_MCm...

A new semester for the Vfox Student Collaboration Experiment for the DAVINCI mission begins next week. It'll be the 3rd semester of the course, with a new cohort of students learning the ins and outs of building a (very simple) instrument to study the Venus atmosphere, and helping to make it real.

For the starship combat nerds in my sphere: My friend and colleague Mark 'Indy' Kochte and I have been off and on working on a tabletop, miniature-based (think little starships) space combat game for well over a decade. We finally got our asses in gear this fall.

#V3NUS stands for the 3 NASA & ESA missions heading to the second planet in the next decade: #DAVINCI- a deep atmosphere probe (and more) (NASA) #VERITAS- a next generation radar satellite (and more) (NASA) #EnVision- ESA's Venus mission, a radar satellite with ground penetrating radar (and more).

#MurderPlanets #Pluto Pluto *may* love you, but it *will* kill you.

How many orders of magnitude easier it would be to seriously colonize Antarctica than Mars? I believe it's 3. Maybe closer to 2 to safeguard against environmental repercussions. But I think 3 is about right. Perhaps that relative ease helps make it politically, internationally impossible.

#MurderPlanets #Neptune Neptune sheds no tears for those it kills

#MurderPlanets #Uranus Uranus will kill you as soon as look at you.

#MurderPlanets #Saturn Saturn will kill you if it can

#MurderPlanets #Jupiter This is not te look of a planet content to let you live

#MurderPlanets #Mars Like it or not, Mars is far morel likely to kill you than the other way around.
