Members of the military are supposed to be loyal to the Constitution, not the president. Changing that seems to have been the point of the Friday Night Massacre. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

A good discussion (I think!) of the significance of last night’s purge—on top of everything else that’s going on. BLUF: Be alarmed. Be very alarmed. www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-fire...

Why are people drawn to RFK's false promises? Why do they have so little trust in medical institutions and why are they willing, even eager, to see them dismantled? We've enforced desperation on millions of now very manipulable people––and we're all now paying for it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CxG...

🚨BREAKING: @democracyforward.org sues on behalf of unions, retirees to block access to personal and sensitive data at SSA. This case comes after SSA commissioner stepped down due to concerns about DOGE accessing data. Visit www.democracydocket.com for details.

For those at the back…

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

@pbump.com on fire these days

Fired federal workers share the crucial jobs no longer being done Six people describe what they were doing to benefit public health, safety and the environment www.sciencenews.org/article/fire...

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

This is the House Republican budget plan that Donald Trump endorsed. Trickle up economics.

You don't fire Judge Advocates General unless you plan on issuing unlawful orders. www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-f...

Stranger than fiction department:

Dan Caine, Trump’s new replacement for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reportedly told Trump, “I love you, sir. I think you’re great, sir. I’ll kill for you, sir.” He also put on a MAGA hat, despite it violating military protocol.

The concentration of wealth in the hands of an elite few isn't just bad for our economy. It's corrosive to our democracy. When the wealthy and well-connected control our political system, the American people don't have a voice. The result is demagoguery and corruption.

another Nazi salute at CPAC

Strong statement by retired Rear Admiral Mike Smith, President of NSL4A: "National Security Leaders for America strongly condemns the removal of senior military officers without just cause. ... Removing experienced leaders with meritorious records weakens the force and emboldens America’s enemies."

23 February 1928 | A French Jewish girl, Marguerite Gruska, was born in Metz. She arrived at #Auschwitz in a transport of 1,300 Jews deported from Drancy on 31 July 1944. She did not survive.

Love to see it!

God this is all so, so dumb

Last night's Pentagon massacre is much more than realized. Not just firing the black CJCS and first woman CNO but all the senior JAG officers and hiring a man who just joined 3 different crypto firms tied to Kushner and Thiel as Chairman. I did a deep dive into it open.substack.com/pub/fpwellma...

“In some ways that’s even more chilling than firing the four stars,” Rosa Brooks, a professor at Georgetown Law. “It’s what you do when you’re planning to break the law: you get rid of any lawyers who might try to slow you down.” By NYT Greg Jaffe www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/u...

Every day, the goals become clearer: The point of DOGE is not efficiency, but regime change www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

This is a shameful way to treat our fellow citizens who are public servants. This doesn’t make America great.

The family values party.

Wise man…

The nature of “shock and awe” is that it makes it hard to see or think clearly. What’s playing out through a veneer of chaos is a deliberate tactical program to create a system in which the President has sole authority over the entire executive branch: www.newyorker.com/news/the-led...

Much media coverage: These Pentagon moves are unusual but Trump's within his rights and wants supporters of his America First agenda. The truth: How is removing the JAGs relevant to any agenda? New, Hegseth-selected JAGs are needed for total loyalty to Trump and finding all his orders lawful.

Demand your GOP congressman cut their budget and lay off some staff. Congress spends 6.4billion/year on their own operations.

Trump pardoned the sentence of arguably the single biggest drug trafficker in American history on his second day in office!

Turns out the Dow doesn’t love it

This would be completely illegal. But you wouldn’t know that from reading this post, the headline, or the lede. Unbelievably bad.

General Brown is a brilliant, amazing leader. I worked at the Air Staff for three years and it was known that he read everything the staff wrote for him. He believes if an analyst took the time to write it, it’s his responsibility to read it. Very few generals do this.

Holy crap. At his town hall last night, Rep. Rich McCormick compared *his own constituents* who asked him tough and fair questions to January 6 insurrectionists

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

TRUMP: You have a man who has let a country that had the more beautiful cities get demolished. The most beautiful domes. FOX: But that's Russia's fault, Mr President T: 1,000 year old domes. Everything is demolished. It's sorta like Gaza F: That's Putin's fault T: I get tired of listening to it

BREAKING - The Dow just had its worst drop since March 2020 — at the beginning of Covid Back then it was a pandemic mismanaged by Trump Now it’s tariffs and inflation mismanaged by Trump Watch out — Trump is giving America economic Covid

“Many workers say they live in a constant state of fear, unable to trust their colleagues, unable to speak freely, reflexively engaging in self-censorship even on matters they view as crucial to national security.” Fed gov used to be a great place to work, www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

House Republicans who were willing to hold town halls back home this week got an earful. At events from Georgia and Wisconsin to Oklahoma and Oregon, many of them faced hostile crowds furious about the sweeping budget cuts & mass firings of federal workers that Trump and Musk’s DOGE is carrying out.

22 February 1924 | Polish Jewish woman, Felicja Wolf, was born in Lwów. She lived in Metz in France. In December 1943 she was deported to #Auschwitz. She did not survive.

So they removed the black chairman of the Joint Chiefs in the middle of his 4-year tour, without cause, and they're seeking to replace him with a white **retired** Air Force three-star general who lacks the requisite experience as a service chief or combatant commander? Huh, how about that

It was an honor to sign the guest book in the home of Anne Frank. I was here as a younger man and thought about her life as a dark chapter of history. Today, I can’t help but think of her story as one of caution. Our world is fragile, and it’s incumbent on us not to break it.
