TIL about two AI-generated stories that disparage my science and academic integrity. I cannot prove that they were paid for by #ColossalBio or its co-founder Ben Lamm, but you can read them and make your own decision: www.apnnews.com/who-is-vince... www.ceotodaymagazine.com/2025/06/vinc...

I am increasingly convinced that the number one best way to improve the internet - and technology in general - would be to flat out ban the use of targetted advertising or, at the very least, the use of any data collected outside the site for targetting.

Whenever I read anything by Sam Altman I wonder whether he genuinely hasn't got a clue what the technology his company builds actually is, or whether he's intentionally lying.

£1.25bn to give away £300/yr to pensioners who mostly don't need it. UK politics is borked.

Remembering Felice Bonetto, born #OnThisDay in 1903, who chain-smoked a pipe, even sometimes at the wheel of a race car. Pic: in a Maserati A6GCM, aged 49, puffing away on his trusty briar, at the old Nürburgring, in ’52. He started 15 championship GPs, bagging 2 podium finishes.

Reminder: Nobel-prize winning PCR (1983), used in basically all genetic tech today, was only possible because of extremophile bacterium discovered in 1964 in Yellowstone funded by a small ~$80k NSF grant with no obvious application at the time. #science 🧪 www.richmondscientific.com/how-a-discov...

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: speaking as an artist, whether you love my games or hate them, the most important thing is that you buy them for money

Men are too emotional to use social media

I repost, and post, a lot of stuff about my general anti-AI sentiments. Here's an interesting look from the other side.

I teach a game writing class. Students have scripts, worldbuilding docs, treatments, etc due every week About half the class used ChatGPT last semester even though I made it clear using an LLM = an F. When I asked why a studio would ever hire them if their work was just ChatGPT, they seemed stunned

This is just extraordinary. But it's also baffling to me. Who wants this? Who uses this and thinks "hey, this is great, give me more of that"?

Are you worried about pesticides in your tampons? You don't need to be. The recent headlines were based on some very bad science. My new piece: gidmk.substack.com/p/you-dont-n...

I'm reading the report behind these headlines about glyphosate and it may be the most scientifically illiterate thing I've come across (although it's a close thing with the recent MAHA report). 1/n

This is the best description of AI I've seen to date.

The point of this was to raise awareness of the ‘unknown’ dangers of these things. When they’re Placed on a surface (no legs), heat transfer can occur (they can reach 400c +). Sand retains heat. The dbbq had been removed & tidied away from this spot several hours prior to Wills foot’s arrival 1/4
