I've had lots going on in the background for a while & now lots of very cool things are happening & I don't know how to announce or talk about any of it because I haven't mentioned any of it going on in the background lol Anyway, there's a monsterfucker short story collection coming this Halloween?

everyone is getting so excited for the CAMP DAMASCUS mention in BURY YOUR GAYS but what about the BURY YOUR GAYS mention on page 104 of CAMP DAMASCUS?

I'm sad with Booktopia going under and the impact this could have on our book industry since they moved into publishing/distribution. But I'm pissed that I've had $300 of books on order for uni for over a month, didn't get them, and apparently don't get my money back.

If sleep deprivation and bad choices got me into this mess, sleep deprivation and bad choices are the only way out

Gentle reminder to all the protagonists out there to release the breath you don't know you're holding.

proving love sometimes means takin a risk. i mean EXISTING is just about the biggest risk there is. but dang what a reward to sit here for a moment and breathe the air and see the stars. what an adventure

Talking about plot lines and answering/workshopping "how to plot" questions on stream? Don't mind if I do! Https://twitch.tv/jacklriley_writes

Good luck at the polls UK! Use your voices and vote with gusto - get those Tories out!

I don't normally track my writing, but decided that from June I would add a writing tracker to my bullet journal and it's honestly really uplifting to see that while I only had 8 writing days on my novel in June, I managed to get 24,473 words drafted. Good job me!

Exams finished and with that the trimester is done! Almost a month before classes start up again and as with every other time my brain goes from 'intense study' mode to 'fun study/writing' mode I find myself wondering: Do I actually HAVE a desk under all these books? #amwriting #amstudying

Goodness me. I entirely forgot social media existed for a hot minute there. How awkward. But in my defence I've been doing some very cool things like studying, working on my novel, and streaming writing exercises. How have you all been?

Maybe I'm too predictable... Friends tend to recommend books to me by listing tags/warnings, knowing I like to discover the story myself. Today I got the following: "Book rec: regency nobility, zombies, murder. Cons: lack of queer" This is the third time I've received that 'warning' in 2 weeks.

Bingo is going surprisingly well so far! One of my current reads is 'Killing Floor' which I actively chose for bingo and 'Hannibal Rising' which I just finished just coincidentally fit while I made my way through the series.

It's the first of Feb! I should probably share what I'm looking forward to this month! I am practically vibrating with the buzz of excitement for 'The Fox Wife' and 'Fathomfolk'. πŸ“šπŸ’™

The way I have been gleefully and maniacally cackling with schadenfreude the last few days as a former employee of Robinsons bookshop is honestly obscene but I refuse to feel shame over it.

As we enter into February it's time to show how my bullet journal looks for the upcoming month. I've gone with an art deco inspired look. My quote for the month is from 'Hannibal Rising' by Thomas Harris. I'll be sharing my anticipated reads for Feb soon. Weekly layout πŸ‘‡

This is your gentle reminder, if you are an Australian (especially Victorian) bookworm πŸ’™πŸ“š, you may wish to consider a different bookstore than Robinson's. Personally, when shopping instore I prefer Readings when I can get there. Or Dymocks. www.instagram.com/p/C2l-byqLui...

(psst if you get called for jury duty and think the law is unjust, you can just nullify it by voting to acquit anyway, but don't tell the judge about it or you won't be selected for duty. Also if you get called for jury duty, don't try to get out of it.)

Food not bombs always doing the good and correct thing. Support your local branch and volunteer if you can πŸ’ͺ

Have been doing a real and proper Write ✍️ for the first time this year and oh! How good it feels to get the creative cobwebs out of my brain! It even came with one of those delightful "oh, I wrote that? That's quite good!" Moments when reading over what I had already done in order to continue.

In case no one has told you lately: 1. You are strong 2. You are beautiful 3. Sea cucumbers have fish that live in their buttholes and eat their ever-regenerating gonads like some sort of sick undersea Prometheus 4. You are deserving of love

Was so lucky to see @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com and FourPlay in Melbourne tonight and what a fantastic ride it was! Light hearted, funny, and so immersive and transporting. I left with my mind filled with worlds of time lapsing civilisations and skies filled with mobius strips of Milky way...

1/2 Spouse, upstairs across the house in the office, door closed from working from home. Me, in the kitchen finishing off dinner. I hear it, the distance sound of that music. The music from hell. Standard Hold Music. I send a text: "dinners ready. Will you be long? I hear the hold music from hell"

I understand that the shitty people once again confirmed they were shitty by voluntarily picking the shittiest of multiple shitty options

Here's another! Purely because Shaun Tan is truly and honestly just a wonderful and incredible human and also because Cicada is one of my personal favourites and was on the shelf next to me. READ SHAUN TAN'S BOOKS AND GAZE AT HIS ART IN AWE!

Now that I'm home I finally had the space and spoons to get my bingo card made for my reading challenge. It's looking good! I have a couple of ideas already, but some spots I'm looking forward to finding titles for. Will I be able to clear the board between study and new releases? Probs not lol

Some people don’t understand true genius when they see it…

Finally back in Melbourne with my cats & my partner who is back from overseas & the collective sigh of relief breathed at being able to stop performing normalcy for others could probably be heard or felt several suburbs away. Maybe now this amorphous critter can actually get shit done.

My partner has been overseas while I've been interstate & I feel that it says a lot about who we are as people that most of our adventures have been "will tell you about it at home" except for the 1 msg I got that was "so I'm at a cat cafe" & a flood of cat photos that we gushed about for 3 hours.

I will never stop loving everything about Gillian Anderson
