I guess we're all too jaded about Republican hypocrisy now, but I still think it's worth imagining if Joe Biden had gotten Bill Gates to send a bunch of Microsoft nerds into government institutions to start hacking into government servers and payment systems. Would they have totally dug that?

Happy birthday, Phil!

This book comes out in February. An absolutely fascinating collection of academic writings on connections between literature and progressive rock and metal. I have a chapter on J.G. Ballard and the music of Trevor Horn/Yes.

Enjoying some late 80s Norwegian pagan folk-rock-punk from Ym:Stammen. I got this when it came out in 1987. A friend of mine painted the cover, and the singer was an acquaintance. The first time someone from "our" crowd had made something so professional. Mind you, I was 16, they were 20-somethings.

If you, like me, appreciate dynamics in music, here's a tip: Youtube has recently introduced default dynamic range compression on their videos. It's called Stable Volume. Turn it off if you think music is already over-compressed.

OK, I really need to try to transition away from Meta. Which means I need new friends. Can you shout out if you like democracy, equality and progressive rock?

Blue Note Sunday with Joe Henderson

Just in time for sunset. 2:40pm.

Hey Dream Theater! You're so interested in craft and artistry. You charge a pretty penny to come hear the sound of a lifetime of practicing. Yet you couldn't be bothered to pay your own few pennies to one of the myriad talented artists that would love to make a cover for you. Nah, let's AI it!

I guess I'll post a bit of what I do musically here as well. Recently released is the second album with my electronica/dash of jazz-funk project Donner, called The Van Gennep Gap. And coming early December, is the long-awaited (?) remastered reissue of White Willow's 2004 album Storm Season.

There's a chill northwester blowing here today. So this is today's tune.

You know what sounds like a waste of money? A department of government efficiency. Bureacracy is basically an endless chain of people being told by people how to delegate work to other people. So yeah, we need ANOTHER rung on that ladder ...

Apart from making and listening to music, watching old movies, reading old books and going for walks with my dog, I also like to take bad pictures of nice scenes with my ancient phone, preferably at dusk.

Since I am new here and I need to establish my prog credentials all over again - here's the tune I usually play for people who come to my place and ask "But Jacob, what is this prog thing, really?" What's your prog explanatory tune?

This is a song I like to listen to when things seem dark and I need a little hope-dose. Any version of this is great, but this is the anarchic, proggy one, which seems right rn.

This is a post. I write music and books, sculpt sounds and think about geopolitics too much.
