It was a hat-trick that gave Omar Marmoush the opportunity to play in the first team of his first club, Wadi Degla. Yesterday, he managed to do it in the Premier League for Manchester City. Piece on Marmoush’s football upbringing. www.nytimes.com/athletic/611...

The Premier League's case against Manchester City has concluded and a three-person panel is considering their judgment. In this interactive explainer, we explore the evidence and arguments made public in City's past cases.

In November 2023, Anwar El-Ghazi was sacked by Mainz after posts about Israel and Gaza. Last July, he won a court case for unfair dismissal. He has now returned to football at #CCFC. This is the first time he has spoken since. www.nytimes.com/athletic/600...

As the three judges come to their decision over 115 charges, English football is in the dark over #MCFC’s fate. But this isn’t the first time they’ve faced scrutiny - this is what the publicly-available evidence tells us about the case. www.nytimes.com/athletic/592...

There's a list out there on the internet, one tallying h.s. basketball's highest single-season scorers. The name on top isn't a familiar one. It's one that was without a story. That's where we begin... www.nytimes.com/athletic/607...

Went to Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates to meet the family of Abdullah Hayayei, a Paralympian who died in 2017 after a steel cage fell on him before London's World Athletics Championships. Following charges, his case will be heard in court tomorrow. www.nytimes.com/athletic/609...

The Premier League’s token big six are scattered across the league. Is their era dead, or do their finances mean it is more entrenched than ever? Includes what #NUFC, #AVFC, & more need to do to break their stranglehold ⬇️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/608...

Most strikers use two or three moves to find space. Alexander Isak has at least seven - and Southampton couldn’t live with them. A deep-dive into the #NUFC striker’s secret sauce, and how Eddie Howe manages it. www.nytimes.com/athletic/608...

Catching up on the Four Kings documentary on Prime, which is fantastic. Knew the names, but too young to see them fight. Heart-breaking but such a powerful exploration of the era and context.

Southampton manager Ivan Juric says he rewatched the Newcastle penalty from the first-half, awarded by VAR, and thinks it was the right decision.

Instant reaction on that #NUFC win from me and @georgecaulkin.bsky.social. Featuring: 🇸🇪 Alexander Isak - good at football ⚫️ Newcastle show they are who they say 3⃣ Third-man runs finally come off www.nytimes.com/athletic/608...

FT: Southampton 1-3 #NUFC Clinical from Newcastle in the end. Reacted quickly after going behind and could stay in second gear for the second-half. The sort of no fuss win that #UCL-chasing sides need. Lovely sky as well.

'87: Southampton fans streaming out — not staying for Miguel Almiron, who has just come on for what could be his first minutes in an #NUFC shirt.

Goal disallowed! Southampton 1-3 #NUFC Would have been a terrible goal to concede. Matheus Fernandes runs straight onto a long ball from the goalkeeper, and Newcastle looked to be facing a nervy finish. Was a shoulder off — and goal reversed by VAR.

'74: Great last-ditch block from Dan Burn in his own six-yard box.

GOAL! Sandro Tonali!! His first league goal since August 2023, played through the middle by a simple triangle from Isak and Gordon which contorted the Southampton defence. Southampton 1-3 #NUFC

'49: Dubravka has to pull off an excellent reflex save from Adam Armstrong to keep the game level — arguably his own weak punch which created the chance, mind.

Southampton 1-2 #NUFC Enjoyable first-half. Newcastle have done well to shrug off a sloppy first goal — the interplay between Guimaraes, Murphy, and Isak has been gorgeous. Southampton's wing-backs still a threat when they play into the box, but #NUFC well on top in midfield.

Ryan Fraser and Sean Longstaff currently having a pretty long chinwag while warming up together. Synchronised bouncing as well.

GOAL! Southampton 1-2 #NUFC It all turns around just like that. Brilliant from Murphy infield, who then plays it down the seam into Isak's stride. Finished clinically.

Isak goes down in the box under Aribo's challenge. Doesn't look like he touches much of the ball... Being checked by VAR.
