Who is at risk? Anyone who stands in the way of the MAGA vision of purging the nation from both the dangerous foreign “Other” and the “enemy within.” Legal status is irrelevant, citizenship is always conditional.

This is critical. So many of us on the left think fascism works according to our categories. It doesn’t. Its whole deal is that while it targets some classes, it can make *anyone* “the enemy.” The goal is power, not “purity.”

Convinced his job is to make Congress even more hesitant to dump Trump.

“Deport” doesn’t quite fit with US citizens. Let’s try “exiled.” Forced absence from one’s own country, often for political or punitive reasons. Even that is too kind.

Donald Trump’s tariffs may soon usher in the first stagflation in half a century. It may go on for a long, long time, @davidfrum.bsky.social writes.

“For those not born in this country but residing here, due process has gone from a right to a luxury, as we’ve seen with the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia in Maryland and a mother and her three children in Upstate New York.”

While GOP exaggerates and lies nonstop about money spent on immigrants & the poor, Trump just quietly pardoned Paul Walczak. Who pleaded guilty to over $10 MILLION in employment tax crimes, withholding money from employees but not paying the government. www.justice.gov/opa/pr/owner...

The US just voted against a UN resolution condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine… Only 7 countries joined our side, including Russia, North Korea... We used to lead the free world. Now we're rolling with dictators. Shame on the USA. 🇺🇸

Resistance is NOT futile

A two year old baby forced onto a plane by her government—our government. That’s what Ilan Wurman and Kurt Lash and their academic collaborators and defenders have been paving the way for with their bullshit articles. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Arresting judges. Threatening allies. Lying about trade deals. Trying to sell campaign merch from the White House. Floating a 2028 run. Deranged. Dangerous. Undemocratic. We must retake our democracy.

This both breaks my heart and makes my blood boil. Such a tragic story: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

The Attorney General is so unserious. If you’re a prosecutor who is serious about obtaining a conviction, you don’t go on Fox and talk about the (alleged) facts of the case like this. Has Bondi read the Justice Manual? Has Bondi heard of pretrial publicity motions? How about bar ethics rules?

Peter Thiel founded the Stanford Review, which was “devoted mainly to ‘anti-PC’ arguments, defending in particular fellow reviewer Keith Rabois, another future PayPal zillionare who, as a Stanford Law student was involved in ‘screaming ‘Faggot! Hope you die of AIDS!’” at a faculty member. 1/

Virginia Giuffre, the prominent survivor of Jeffrey Epstein's sexual abuse, has died by suicide. Giuffre, 41, died in Neergabby, Australia, where she had been living. Giuffre was one of the earliest and loudest voices calling for criminal charges against Epstein. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Horrifying: "Judge says 2-year-old US citizen appears to have been deported with ‘no meaningful process’"

THIS SHOULD NOT BE AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A day before the arrest of Judge Dugan in Wisconsin, former immigration judge Joel Cano and his wife were also arrested in New Mexico after providing a Venezuelan migrant a place to stay while he awaited his immigration hearings.

A federal judge in Washington blocked President Trump from ending collective bargaining with unions representing federal workers.

NEW: A federal judge raised alarm Friday that the Trump administration appeared to have deported a 2-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras with "no meaningful process" — even as her father was fighting to keep her in the country. Details w/ @joshgerstein.bsky.social www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Well, this is horrifying.

Anything that stands in the way of the right-wing bullshit/propaganda machine is under attack — from the universities to non-profits to the rare online platform that manages to maintain some semblance of information integrity.

For a decade, Trump and his right-wing warriors have frequently won the propaganda battle, so it’s surprising (and hope-inspiring) to see him underwater in polls on the economy and immigration — and absolutely drowning on the issue of his treatment of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

When I was writing about these pronatalist people this week I came across this anecdote from the Guardian about the guy In the CNN clip.

Incredible scoop! Career officials inside the Trump administration first viewed the case of Mr. Abrego like any normal case of a wrongful deportation — they began looking for ways to bring him back, as happens normally when ICE makes mistakes. Then the White House got involved, and blew it up.

1. Rather than waiting for a funding threat, the state of Minnesota under AG Keith Ellison is going on offense, suing the Department of Justice for attempts to force states to discriminate against trans kids. The latest from S. Baum. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Effective Corporate Tax Rates 1950: 50% 2025: 13% Top Marginal Tax Rates 1950: 91% 2025: 37% If you’re curious as to why the rich have so much and you have so little, these are good places to start.

After Abrego Garcia was deported, the administration initially scrambled to try to figure out how to bring him home, admitting that his alleged gang ties were tenuous, at best. Then the negative coverage started and they decided the fight would be a political win. Disgusting.

Very useful interactive spreadsheet of the college/univ prez who have signed this declaration of academic independence. Up to 480 signers now, up from 180 three days ago. Thanks to @ejgoldstick.bsky.social for putting it together. For reference, his doc is here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Imagine if Joe Biden, newly in office, had launched a company with Hunter Biden and used his social media to recruit financial backers. Then promised the most generous among them would earn an invitation to a private dinner with him ... Trump just did that.

In addition to the flagrant Fourth Amendment violations this memo instructs officers to commit, it also directs them to advise people that they are not entitled to due process rights the Supreme Court itself has said (after this memo issued) they are owed.

Yup.

This should be the top story in Axios’s morning read. But it isn’t. It’s the FIFTH top story. @axios.com www.axios.com/2025/04/23/t...

“Federal prosecutors said at trial that Fiore, 54, had raised more than $70,000 for the statue of a Las Vegas police officer who was fatally shot in 2014 in the line of duty, but had instead spent some of it on cosmetic surgery, rent and her daughter’s wedding.” apnews.com/article/trum...

Maddow: 88% of the country says no, no, he cannot defy a supreme court ruling. Only 9% say yes he can. And you know, it's not the same thing. But I should mention that 9% is also the proportion of Americans who told yougov this week that they have a favorable view of the black plague

Bragging about being “close to a trade deal” with South Korea is a joke—we already have one: KORUS—a free trade agreement signed in 2007 & updated in 2018. Nearly all tariffs are already gone. PS— Bessett sounds like a terrible negotiator. “We’ll see if they actually follow through.” Clown show.

Horrifying abuse of presidential power. The United States of America is an authoritarian state. Donald Trump is a criminal dictator.
