The Ducks played a much better third than they did in Buffalo and in Detroit. They sat back a bit but got some looks and played a fairly stout defensive game. This is not something we have seen often from this team in third periods and shows progress

The Ducks followed up that up and down 1st with a very good performance in the 2nd period and not only closed the xG gap but as you all know took the lead in the game. Now comes a very high pressure third and the question of if the Ducks continue this type of play

Ducks played a very good first 10ish minutes and looked extremely threatening but then kinda went completely flat offensively in the 2nd half of the period while the Canucks started to find their offensive flow.

Tonight was one of the worst 5v5 performances this team has had in a bit. Just did not generate a lot of dangerous offense and allowed a ton. The only redeeming thing is the PP scored, but this was a game the Ducks deservedly loss

The more I think about that Husso trade the more annoying it gets. The Ducks essentially relieved the Red Wings of 3.6 mil of buried cap hit and got nothing in return for taking on that cap hit. Poor asset management by Verbeek (cap space is an asset)

3 games for Zegras is about right. People will complain but that is a hit that should not be in the game

There will be a brand new @crashthepond.com podcast tonight. @felix.crashthepond.com and I will break down the Ducks play since the season got going again and look ahead to the trade deadline

As expected, Zegras will have a hearing for his hit and in my opinion will likely be missing some games here for it

This is likely going to get Zegras a game or two from the DoPS. Late hit that has the primary point of contact as the head along with an injury. Fairly simple decision on whether to suspend or not. The question is how many games to me

Been slightly MIA due to personal life stuff but overall the Ducks played a very good game yesterday and got rewarded for it last night. Tonight I am not as positive. They played a good 1st at 5v5 but the penalties and PK along with their overall play at 5v5 down let me wanting more

Matthew Tkachuk should not have played in this game if he was that hurt. Kyle Connor does a lot more from you than Tkachuk did. That’s on Sullivan and in some ways Tkachuk also

This tournament is showing the beauty of the 3-2-1 point system and how not winning in regulation can be negative at the end of it all. The playoff races with this system would be so good.

The 4 nations has been an absolute hit. This is exactly what you want for international hockey

Crash the Draft! With how this season is going, we have no idea of the range in which the Ducks will be selecting at this June’s draft Nevertheless, it’s gonna be fun to go over some names to watch down the final stretch of the season with these guys #FlyTogether

Tune in next Tuesday, 2/18 for a special edition of @crashthepond.com: Crash the Draft. @patrickcpresent.bsky.social, @jake.crashthepond.com, Connor Plutko and I will kick off a series leading up to the '25 draft where we will analyze this year's prospects, and who the Ducks should draft.

Probably the best 3 on 3 I have seen since team North America vs Sweden in the 2016 WCH

That was such a ridiculously fun game. Any questions about how much the players cared about this tournament have been answered.

Myself and @felix.crashthepond.com will be back with a brand new @crashthepond.com podcast tonight at 8 PM. Felix just texted me tonight’s format will be different and I have no clue what that means so tune in to find out as I do!

Snoop and Tom Brady: say no to hate Kendrick: actually

Dostal wins that game for the Ducks. That third period might have been his best period this season and that’s saying something with the season he has had

The ways in which he is so clearly coaching for his job highlight the ways in which he is so clearly unqualified for this job.

That is a dirty play by Doughty. Good to see Vatrano pop back up

I despise that Cronin defaults to the Dumoulin-Trouba pairing late in games. Not only are they not great together, but also it also takes away a huge learning moment for Zellweger or Mintyukov. They need those high pressure reps

And to that question, even though they have scored, they largely have played poorly

This has been a better 5v5 performance for the Ducks and they have largely limited the Kings from generating good looks. My real question is how do they play in the third? This team has had some very poor thirds from a play perspective in tight games

I’m fascinated to see that LaCombe-Helleson pairing and how LaCombe looks away from Gudas. The underlying numbers make it seem like he’s carrying Gudas right now so a change will be interesting

Also this chart from @allthreezones.bsky.social shows one of the large issues with Cronin’s system with this team. The Ducks are attempting to be a forechecking team, but just don’t have the horses for winning the pucks back. It’s a complete misalignment of roster to strategy
