Aesthetically, there's a cartoonification of cultural production: CGI Marvel films, Disney "live" remakes, AI-generated text to video, Apple memojis and so on. That look and feel is becoming the aesthetic language of the decade. So said the guy with a pixelated profile picture.

Join us for this week’s #LTHEchat which will explore coaching as an educational practice with @kayguccione.bsky.social on Wednesday, 8-9pm BST. Read the blog post athttps://lthechat.com/2025/04/07/coaching-as-an-educational-practice-holding-space-for-a-learning-conversation/

One of the damages of social media is that it intentionally rots the principle of charity to a degree that makes dialogue impossible. A generation of people who learned critical thinking, reasoning, and argumentation mediated by a system that rewards this develop aggressive & opaque reasoning.

The purpose of a clown like Musk, if nothing else, is to make clear how much in modern politics voting is the same as buying and selling. For both buyers and sellers. From Cambridge Analytica to those giant checks being handed, politics is more and more advertising, transactional.

The big, unspoken problem (shame?) of being a learning designer and professional services staff in HE is that we are constantly being asked to adapt, write and create content and activities teaching staff should have ownership off.

A great topic this week.

It’s officially Spring, because I swallowed the first bug of the year on a run. Fibre and protein!

A great one this week.

Happy World Poetry Day. Something I read this week: Wild Geese, by Mary Oliver.

Media literacy, reading fiction, parsing multiple perspectives, lateral reading, critical thinking. Modern cultural consumption applies the principles of UX for online shopping to everything it produces, w the cost of erasing complexity & the slow trust we build when engaging w fiction & otherness.
