Meanwhile, Australian commercial radio - one of the most unpleasant and misogynistic radio markets in the world - excels itself once again. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

A tale of two sets of radio closures - one set in the UK, one set in Australia. One company respects its audience (and its people); the other despises them, by all appearances. My latest radio trends newsletter. james.cridland.net/blog/2025/tw...

oh lord, I ended up having to write something about what's going on with Apple's Advanced Data Protection - what it is, what it does, and what happens now for UK users. www.ianbetteridge.com/apples-advan...

Genuinely pleased at this. While Apple Podcasts probably won't acknowledge the part that this slide from the Podnews Report Card made, it can't have harmed the process of getting enough engineering resource to have fixed it.

Oh my word. You probably knew this already @james.crid.land but just in case not...

At a conference, listening to a foreign-language panel talking about how great AI is at translation. I’m sure the human translator, who I’m listening to in my ear, is finding it inspiring.

Bluesky comments! podnews.net/update/tig-n... - half way down the page. Also uses the Podcasting 2.0 socialInteract tag, so it should also work with podcast apps in future!

My latest radio trends newsletter. Big changes for international radio listeners to the BBC's stuff - but, long term, the right choice. james.cridland.net/blog/2025/bb...

Are you a podcaster? Take the Podnews report card!! Help @james.crid.land make the podcast industry better. 👏 podnews.net/report-card

Do you have feedback for some of the key players in the podcast industry? Now's your time to let them know what's up. Fill out the Podnews report card so that @podnews.net & @james.crid.land can analyze em and share them live at Podcast Movement next month. Here it is: podnews.net/report-card

Looks like BBC Sounds is going away for international users. I'm not claiming I'm a radio futurologist or anything, but I did predict this in November. james.cridland.net/blog/2025/bb...

Over the last couple of days @james.crid.land has exposed (again) the fact that almost nobody in podcasting or radio has any idea how their own audience metrics work. The admission made in this follow-up piece is spectacular. podnews.net/article/aus-...

PODCASTS ON A PLANE Today's Podnews office. Newsletter written, podcast recorded and edited (though the audio is a little different today). Now watching it slowly upload. Technology!

"63% of podcasts get over 100,000 downloads a month" in Australia, apparently. Um - no. No, they don't. I spot misleading numbers in a press release. Also, the podcaster who gets his guests to pay him, but doesn't tell his listeners. #makingfriends podnews.net/update/audio...

New! @james.crid.land talks podcast, radio … bit.ly/4aGY4p7

"Embargoed until 10am UK time", says a release. The same company posts the news at 7.30am on its LinkedIn. This really isn't how embargoes work, so I've just broken it too, just like they did.

My latest radio trends newsletter is out - looking at the Triple J #Hottest100 and Apple's new radio stations. And, oddly, London Live. james.cridland.net/blog/2025/tr...

That new DeepSeek Chinese AI tool sure seems to know its stuff.

What is this tree outside my window? I’m curious to know what the fruit is. Can anyone help? #Brisbane #Queensland #Australia

Lots of research went into this. But it’s quite fascinating the apparatus that has been built to control content in (currently) China. Reposts welcome!
