You draw out of the world what you put into it. ​ Want to attract reliable people? Be reliable. Want to attract trustworthy people? Be trustworthy. Want to attract welcoming people? Be welcoming. Want to attract exceptional people? Be exceptional.

Don’t feel qualified? Nobody does. You can only be qualified to do that which you have already accomplished or trained for. Anything new is accomplished by unqualified people.

Double down on your best relationship. It's the investment with the highest return.

On Hats, Haircuts, and Tattoos I think about decisions in three ways: hats, haircuts, and tattoos. Most decisions are like hats. Try one and if you don't like it, put it back and try another. The cost of a mistake is low, so move quickly and try a bunch of hats.

Being yourself is a continuous effort. There is always another expectation placed upon you, another person pulling you toward their preferences, another nudge from society to act a certain way. It's a daily battle to be yourself, not merely what the world wants you to be.

Train hard and focus on what you can control.

Before you try to increase your willpower, try to decrease the friction in your environment.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an expert as long as you’re on the path. If a beginner is on the path, all they need is time. If an expert is off the path, they won’t be an expert for long.

There are two ways to grow: by adding or by shedding. Do you need to add something or do you need to shed something?

1. Discover - Read a lot. Observe the world. Notice. 2. Collect - Immediately record anything that strikes you. 3. Generate - Build on your notes to brainstorm lots of ideas. 4. Combine - Connect previously unconnected ideas. 5. Refine - Edit, edit, edit. Select the best.

A surefire way to make a bad situation worse is to continue replaying it in your mind. The damage is done. The only thing that matters now is making the best choice given your current position. Next play mentality.

Different meanings can be assigned to the same events. Look for evidence of how the world is encouraging you, and you will find it. Look for evidence of how the world is burdening you, and you will find it. Choose an explanation that empowers you.
