As a nervous writer I came down from Glasgow to shadow Radio Comedy for a week.I was put in the hands of a funny, smart and idiosyncratic producer who was generous with his time, wise in his advice and very happy to show me the ropes. They were extremely good ropes because the producer was Bill Dare.

Digging through my archives I was pleased to find this interview with #SeethingWells - the 'spiky poet' it says here - from LOP 169 in May 1981. Interview by Don Dare. Nice photos too.

was in Leeds library today looking at all their old LOP's Not good copies but found these articles @rememberlop.bsky.social @jamesjamesbrown.bsky.social . I'll be spending hours in there in the future!

Has the guy giving out writing tips on here ever read his own writing?

My team isn't in the FA cup but loved this weekend. Man United out on pens...Gordon getting sent off.

Here are some photos and a video taken at the Rock 'n' Roll Public Library in London yesterday. The show features the personal collection of Mick Jones of The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite etc (THREAD)

Tristram Hand Shandy!

It's good to see LOP cited frequently among the sources in Gavin Butt's excellent book No Machos Or Pop Stars (@dukepress.bsky.social) - he's also got this par that neatly puts the paper in context with @redladder.bsky.social, @leedsanimation.bsky.social, #LeedsPostcards, #Suma and all the rest.

Here's a big interview with members of @redladder.bsky.social in #LeedsOtherPaper number 108 from July 1979. Unlike LOP, Red Ladder is still going - respect. #Theatre #RadicalTheatre #LeedsHistory

'It has been said "you write political songs". In our opinion there is no band that doesn't.' That's Leeds band Another Colour interviewed (sort of) by Don Dare for LOP 165 back in 1981. It's just one of many #LeedsOtherPaper references in No Machos Or Pop Stars. Those were the days, eh?

Very sad news about David Johansen: I loved the Dolls OGWT appearance - androgynous, chaotic, ludicrous and hard rocking. I interviewed Johansen in 2022 and he sharp and funny. Farewell - you really made a contribution

81 today. Happy birthday Roger Daltrey.

Don’t forget that ‘Pauline Boty: I Am the Sixties’ is being broadcast at 10pm on Monday 3 March on BBC Four. It will then be available on BBC iPlayer. The Guardian’s pick of the day.

I've binge watched the Jurgen Klopp doc. Brilliant and emotional. Is it alright to say I quite fancy Harvey Elliott's mum though?

Who doesn't like the Utah Saints and who doesn't equally like the Osmonds? The GobTV chaps (Swells, Nick Small and Rob Lloyd) were on it back in the 90's. youtu.be/yY3PuTgcFxo?...

Loved doing this one with @rebeccafront.bsky.social and, to a lesser extent, with @quantick.bsky.social. Notice we're now getting fucking ads at the front, back and in the middle for something indecipherable. Is that...good? pod.link/1774465485/e...

Remembering George Harrison on his birthday. Here's a glorious playlist of the singles that he listened to on his KB Discomat jukebox (as published by Record Mirror in December 1965). Photo taken in Chiswick Gardens by Robert Whitaker ▶️🎧 open.spotify.com/playlist/2hB...

Been watching a lot of Gobtv videos for research (Made by Swells, Nick Small and Rob Lloyd). They're great but i don't really know what's going on in any of them. Sheep? Bears? Osmonds and Utah Saints?

Is anyone still in CND?

We really didn't know how lucky we were with radio comedy in the early nineties, with Chris Morris, Armando Iannucci and Lee And Herring up to all kinds of nonsense on several BBC Radio stations at once. Here's an attempt at explaining how great it was. timworthington.org/2019/12/16/l...
