To be clear, “Vance skis in jeans” is Vermont’s highest insult. This is Final Boss Nuclear Insult level in the Vermont linguistic hierarchy.

No, the meeting did not go badly for Ukraine. It exposed in the most undeniable, unequivocal way possible the pro-Putin commitments of the president and vice president. That was information Americans and allies needed to have clear before them.

Watching Putin’s little stooges try to bully Zelenskyy in our goddamned White House is pretty repulsive.

On the economic protest today: There's a lot of chatter about "effective" protest. The thing about *perceived* ineffective protest is that you never know what larger movements it might accelerate and how many folks might be changed. Technically speaking, all protest is ineffective until it isn't.

My least favorite aspect of documentary filmmaking is the waiting. Creative momentum must adhere to the weeks and months of waiting to hear back from funders and investors, interviewees, and schedules. The highs are the best of highs but the waiting is the lowest of lows.

I am now the chair of my program (interim status via a medical leave but I will probably be in this role for some time), and I have a proclamation: I can juggle everything well if I just decide scholarship isn't important! If I forsake what is most important to me, I really can have it all!

At long last, I’m thrilled to announce that my new book, WITHOUT CONSENT: A Landmark Case and the Decades-Long Struggle To Make Spousal Rape a Crime, will be published on November 11, 2025 and is available for pre-order wherever books are sold! www.sarahweinman.com/book/without...

Look up the climate and infrastructure projects in your neighborhood funded under Biden! Within a 20 mile radius of my ZIP code, there is $432,251,261.99 😯 invested in projects that'll make my city and county better! grist.org/accountabili...

To be truthtellers in times of disinformation

Seeing streamers sell sloppy news stories as "documentaries" (like with Luigi Mangione on HBO) shows the problem with information literacy: More people trust documentary slop than actual news. FYI: DOCUMENTARY SLOP IS MUCH WORSE THAN THE NEWS.

An underrated virtue of all other presidents was that you could forget about them for weeks at a time

My first solo-authored article is up now in RSQ! This piece was a dream to work on. I'm so humbled by the generosity of the RSQ reviewers and editors, and even more sure that my crackerjack home team of friends + colleagues is the best in the game. Check it out! bit.ly/hhopkinsrsq

DC folks, this will be badass!

whoever taught students that the best way to persuade a professor to add them to an over-enrolled course is to make a feeble plea that come across as disingenuous ("I want to study X because I see X in my life all the time, like when...) was WAY wrong.

I knew the oligarchs sucked but had no idea they were simply just doormats
