“[Of] 25 replication studies, 7 (28%) studies demonstrated robust replicability, meeting all three validation criteria: achieving statistical significance (p < 0.05) in the same direction as the original study and showing compatible effect size magnitudes as per the Z test (p > 0.05).”

New Replication Project in sport and exercise science shares it results: Out of 25 replication studies performed, 56% yielded significant results, but only 7 (28%) revealed a similar effect size. Several problems related to the quality of are discussed. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Incredible effort here from the team led by @jennymurphy2.bsky.social and everyone involved in conducting the replications. Glad I could help facilitate our team contributing one of them whilst I was at Solent University. #metascience #sportscience

Congrats @jennymurphy2.bsky.social on this one! A huge effort and vitally important rdcu.be/errSv

Jesus Christ this graph. Total and utter political failure.

Very excited to publicly share news about a new tool, Papercheck, that @debruine.bsky.social and me started to develop more than a year ago! In an introductory blog post, we explain our philosophy to automatically check scientific papers for best practices. daniellakens.blogspot.com/2025/06/intr...

“A CDC and official who led the agency's network to study hospitalization trends from infectious diseases like COVID-19 has resigned in protest following RFK's orders to change the agency's vaccine recommendations and the committee that makes them. www.cbsnews.com/news...

Rather depressing if HEs best solution to the rise of GenAI is ‘go back to in person exams’… We can and must do a lot better than that.

Shocked (not).

Yes. Folks, this is not a distraction. Any action that hurts millions of people can never be a distraction. Trump covers up crime with scandal. Deploying military forces on US soil to hurt innocent people isn’t a scandal. It’s a crime. Focus on the people getting hurt. That’s who matters most.

Thought I’d sneak out for a quick 9 holes, should have checked the weather forecast.

More gaslighting from Fraser Nelson in The Times. Farage is not sliding into racism, and of course Nelson knows it. Racism is the only thing that Farage has to offer.

When I realized how dangerous the current agency-driven AI trajectory could be for future generations, I knew I had to do all I could to make AI safer. I recently shared this personal experience, and outlined the scientific solution I envision @TEDTalks⤵️ www.ted.com/talks/yoshua...

I’ve read The Invisible Doctrine by @georgemonbiot.bsky.social and it was an eye opener. It’s helped me understand why politics transfer wealth. Now it’s on film and you can view it, from a few places including Apple TV - but here’s the link to the YouTube offer youtu.be/lc--mVz3n2A?...

The journal of sport sciences recently made a sample size justification section mandatory. More and more journals are implementing this, as it is a central part of a study! Learn how to create a state of the art sample size justification from my paper: online.ucpress.edu/collabra/art...

Normalise writing a nice quick note to scholars literally every time you read and like their work. Our world is small and getting smaller. We need encouragement.

Not sure where to start with this one. Internet gaming addiction… is a risk factor for internet gaming disorder

If there is one positive to come from last night it would be this! Simply cannot carry a player this wasteful.

Looking forward to another iteration of my “everything is causal inference” talk today. I’ll talk about how people may actually be in the business of causal inference based on observational data without noticing; missing data, generalization & measurement! Slides: juliarohrer.com/wp-content/u...

At nearly 16 hrs on Audible I wasn’t sure a ‘history of the Luddites’ was going to hold my attention. I was very wrong! #BloodInTheMachine from @bcmerchant.bsky.social was excellent, and the parallels to contemporary #AI discussions are very well drawn. A must read for anyone working on AI policy.

Cant wait to see him for a third time in a few weeks 😬 This is a great interview and well worth a listen, even if you don’t love his comedy youtu.be/ceKAdQFrd5E?...
