This is honestly nuts

anyone knows of companies doing open-source geospatial software in Berlin?

I just released the Museum of All Things version 1.0!!! You can find it at mayeclair.itch.io/museum-of-al...

One thing maybe not discussed enough is the long term opportunity cost of not investing and supporting open source software. Imagine the more and better Blenders, GIMPs, Firefoxs, InkScapes, QGISs etc we would of had (+ could have) if open source was taken more seriously by government and businesses

surreal to work on an open source map and then open your YouTube feed to a short with 12 million views where the first frame is that map (this is also why we didn't clone an existing map style for the @protomaps.com default and instead made it visually distinctive) www.youtube.com/shorts/rc1WE...

One of the best things about working in the OSS ecosystem is the number of incredible people I've gotten to know. People who love building things to help others, who work to make the ecosystem better, who are just genuinely great people overall. Very thankful I get to work alongside y'all!

I noticed the FOSS4G EU website was reusing the colour scheme from Tartu last year, so decided to help by raising a PR to give it its own unique look and feel based on this year's logo colours

Just submitted my talk for FOSS4G EU 2025 in Bosnia 🇧🇦 See you there?

Our next FOSS4G:UK will be an in-person event in Leeds on 1st & 2nd October 2025. More details soon at uk.osgeo.org. Start thinking about your submission for the Call for Talks - we want to hear what you have been up to with Free & Open Source 4 Geospatial! #GISchat

My talk on Terra Draw from FOSDEM is now live 📹. It covers what the library does and some of the more recent changes and updates. You can watch it here: ftp.belnet.be/mirror/FOSDE...

Our February release of OS Places is now live on @hf.co, Snowflake & S3. Notable additions: - dataset now available in PMTiles format - more efficient geocoordinate partitioning sorting - Removal of 15k POIs with profanity in the name. Full release notes here: docs.foursquare.com/data-product...

listen if you're interested in 🌍 geospatial companies or 💰 the existential weight of attempting to run a business or 👴🏻 my feelings on open source and realtime tech and stuff!

Happy 19th birthday @osgeo You are welcome to celebrate with us! https://www.osgeo.org/foundation-news/happy-19th-birthday-osgeo/ #osgeo #foss4g #community #geospatial

Exactly 10 years ago today, I 🚢'd my first GitHub feature, GeoJSON rendering. The base layer has since moved from MapBox to Azure Maps, but the feature is still rendering more than 7 million maps a year across more than 27 million .geojson files. https://t.co/1NiPrgsW0o

making something people find useful is very addicting

"I found a couple requests sent by my phone with my precise location + 5 requests that leak my IP address, which can be turned into geolocation using reverse DNS." Yikes timsh.org/tracking-mys...

That's a wrap for my first FOSDEM - a unique, intense, hard to forget experience. See you next year?

Good news - very limited allocation of extra tickets for State of Open Con on 4 and 5 Feb is available to open source maintainers and community contributors. To apply for a comp ticket contact mailto:[email protected] and share what your community contribution is https://buff.ly/3HjeQxq #soocon25

Next up is @oliviaguyot.bsky.social speaking to a full room about the highly esteemed @openlayers.org library 🗺️

Front row for this morning's talks in the Geospatial room at #FOSDEM - map based CAPTCHAs, indoor positioning, 15 minute cities and open ground level imagery

Greetings to #fosdem2025 from @osgeo ! Enjoy today's #GeoSpatial devroom. https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/track/geospatial/ #osgeo #fosdem

It's day 1 of #FOSDEM - I'm speaking on Terra Draw in the Geospatial room at 12:50pm, room AW120

weather report for FOSDEM weekend in Brussels: sunny and dry; high 6°C ; low -1°C

I am begging you: if you are writing a thread of more than a couple posts, get a blog. I don’t mean this in a mean way. I mean: allow this thought to continue to exist, outside of this platform, in an actually coherent, readable format that sticks around for longer than 20 minutes. You deserve it!

Just landed in Brussels in advance of #FOSDEM - I forgot how quiet other capital cities can be

OpenLayers v10.4.0 is out. Thanks to everyone who contributed, especially to 7 new contributors for this release! github.com/openlayers/o...
