They say that Jewish holidays line up with reality in unexpected ways. In a few week’s we’ll observe a holiday about an inept amoral leader and his antisemitic advisor. Weird.

The "is listening to an audiobook 'reading'" argument (no, it's listening) upsets me, not because people being wrong about it matters, but because it reveals a value system that insists that things must have the same name to be treated as equally valuable. And that has broader implications

This is beautiful. I wrote most of my dissertation while pregnant, defended at 36 weeks, and was on the job market with a newborn. I was nursing at the time I had a flyout, so I had to disclose/ask for breaks/access to a private room to pump/etc. I was lucky to be supported, but it was still hard.
