When two chronically ill colleagues chat and one gets jealous to find out the other is getting the pneumonia jab. Friday morning!

As usual an excellent episode. Alex' analysis of the British journalists' questions was a bit sobering. As a teacher I'm very interested in the upcoming deepdive on Paul Marshall - his and other hedgefund managers creep on education gets so ignored, academy trusts are full of them! Gove ...

Perfect, just perfect. 👏 @mortenmorland.bsky.social

Roberta Flack, Killing Me Softly (1937 - 2025)

1997 and "Into My Arms" has such a hold on me

"Hope is Optimism with broken heart" listening to nick cave's desert island discs and had to sit with this for a moment.

www.theguardian.com/books/2025/f... In my ignorance I didn't even realise @thestorygraph.com was UK based - even better! I continue being a fan (as well as @libro.fm )

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle... One of the sweetest ones yet

Honestly, if you ever want a real life experience of Kafkas "der Prozes" - try & deal with hmrc. Especially if it involves 2 different departments. Disconnected phone lines, a complaints address that Royal Mail doesn't recognise, staff apologising as their system constantly freezes... it's unreal

Fujitsu is targeting a lucrative contract renewal with HMRC worth over £200m. Already makes millions from govt contacts. Yet to pay any penalty for false conviction of postmasters in the Post Office scandal. No one prosecuted. Corporate gravy train rolls on.

Really excellent episode also putting the outraged noise in perspective. Also appreciated the slight glimpse of hope via David Lammys assessment

I made a video explaining verbs and infinitives in German. They believe in my potential and encourage a youtube career, I guess that's my half-term sorted.

Not to brag but I got a round of applause in my lesson today 😅 it was actually very sweet - we are talking year 10s (15 year olds)

I wonder about a US boycott movement and how not much is getting reported. I've seen Mexico & Latin America giving coca cola the cold shoulder (not sure Pepsi is better), I've seen footage of Canadian supermarkets prioritising Canadian products then you start beef with 🇿🇦 ? Aka homeland of boycotts

Really great episode. Excellent take on what will happen with all these executive orders. Also very interesting about the quiet dropping of the 800 dollar import tax free - etsy sellers around the world have been watching the tariffs. Thirdly love you joining @bookshop-org.bsky.social

Me last night: Maybe this week’s column was a bit harsh on Labour. Perhaps they’ll start to see disability benefits in a more nuanced way and respect the people relying on them. Labour this morning:

I'm hearing Coca-Cola been cooperating with ICE, I'll give up my diet coke addiction probably good for me. Cosmetics I think I'm fine but a lot are sneaky, small brands bought up by multinationals. What other companies to focus on? And definitely lean into our own communities, shop local

Are we still waiting for our politicians to deal with this? Surely we should use our worldwide consumer power, learn from south african history. Let's draw up a boycott list with alternatives. I disengaged from amazon (audible>librofm, goodreads>storygraph, prime>direct) using ecosia as my browser

Proof that wokeness has run amok: Nearly 7% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

www.theguardian.com/society/2025... I find this quite touching and hopeful. I'm not a hoarder at all but I somehow can understand it. I so wish we would tackle more issues with as much empathy and pragmatism.

This month’s NSV episode features a conversation with Ghassan Ghaben, a lawyer and community activist with Gaza Families Reunited, the British Palestinian Committee and the mutual aid group, Reviving Gaza. Listen and subscribe: bit.ly/40wsPZl

Just a brief note from education - in 20 years I have never ever received such regular communication that students have moved "into temporary accommodation" (= are homeless). I had bloody 4 this week, our school is in the suburbs, soon some other kids go on the school ski trip.

I really think communication is a big problem for the left at all levels and to fix this gloom that's what would need fixing first. I'm a big believer in local councils but in Haringey people are so disillusioned and cynical. Even I can't easily explain the point of the LTNs.

NRS healthcare now one hour after their 2 hour slot. The joy of being disabled when people don't care about your time...

If I learn, you learn - learned about this cinema carer card (in the uk), seems straightforward and accepted by most cinema chains: www.ceacard.co.uk

When you wait for your grab rails to get installed and in the meantime read through the health care providers financial statements on company's house. 200 million pounds annual revenue. And apparently they are just a subsidiary ... the directors are optimistic about the market development.

Welcome to the Fringe: Palestine is seeking a diverse range of Palestinian artists, including musicians, theatre-makers, dancers, storytellers, children’s performers, poets, and comedians, to showcase their talents at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Apply here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

And they are back 😂

Interesting shift on tiktok already, 5 hours polite mourning of the Americans now the rest of the English speaking world that knows who Robbie Williams is, is tentatively starting to crack jokes. Not seeing much Irish content yet which I think will be amazing in the future

Tiktok this morning is a bit surreal, I see a lot of last American creator stuff before they went dark also some funny Australians - we are considering divvying up popular American creators content 😅 green flag / red flag guy is up for grabs as we need someone who likes to run ...

Also if you haven't yet - join @thestorygraph.com - one million times better than goodreads.

In with the new @librofm.bsky.social - an app that let's you support your local bookshop at the same price. Plus you get two free credits when you sign up.

Getting ready ...

Uk people, I am trying to cut out amazon more and might go back to physical books. Apart from borrowing, where is a good place to buy online? Also is eBay OK I don't actually know who owns them? Thirdly I do love audiobooks, can they be bought on other platforms?

Just at the point where the limitations of AI become glaringly obvious, its horrendous environmental costs are known & tech is showing its love of autocracy, Labour is "all of this" smh I feel like when your boomer relatives post questionable memes into the family chat

@quietriotpod.bsky.social the short and sweet comment in the email about tomorrow lunch 😂😂😂

Why are we not hearing about the student protests in Serbia (not only students)?

Very cute - until the very end - Darren, I hope this was a typo! Blind date: ‘The glare of the Christmas lights made his eyes look really beautiful and I just had to tell him’ www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

Met apologises to black community leader detained by officer who has faced three misconduct proceedings www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024... That headline is shite, read the whole story, every new paragraph will get you more angry. Thank you Jason Matthews for sticking with it FOR FIVE YEARS!!!

I only ever seen him on tiktok but my disabled heart brims with pride 🥰
