I also work in software and this is wildly false. we have a master branch in every repo we use. we also have "slave" processes.

In general this is something Democrats have steadfastly refused to do over the years vis a vis foreign policy— a massive advantage afforded to Republicans is that a lot of the precedents they set on the world stage end up getting implicitly affirmed by the successive Dem as fait accompli

UPDATE: Mahdawi was able to meet with a member of his legal team who said he’s doing as okay as he can be. Atty Luna Droubi said they’ve confirmed U.S. Atty of VT received TRO, so if ICE moves him they’ll do so knowing the court’s order. Mahdawi and legal team are relieved he’s being held in VT

It has been strange to see my and Abe's work on weaponized interdependence taken up by policy makers as an instruction manual, when it was explicitly written as a warning of how badly things were likely to go wrong. direct.mit.edu/isec/article...

I cannot even tell you how much depends on people like Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, and Marco Rubio going to prison for the crimes they committed in public. If that doesn't happen, and it seems like a long shot, we can pack it up.

This is 100% correct

distinctly remember watching this for the first time (screening at pittsburgh's carnegie museum of art, back when they used to do film screenings) and walking out with my mind totally blown. rewatched recently on the big screen and it absolutely holds up.

any dem who wants to be president should start promising severe repercussions for bukele if elected

“All I wanted for the rest of my days was to smugly walk around Harvard in my lifted-heel cowboy boots while owning the libs and raking in speaker fees from the rubes and it was just lovely and such fun and now you’ve gone and ruined it, absolutely ruined it”

who are these fucking 36% of asians wanting the party to move right?

I'm truly not interested in a political project that "restores" the US. I only care about one that completely transforms it.

i went to yeshiva with the guy who made the pancakes, ben packer. he had a confederate flag over his bed, which i took of photo of him waving at massda. he now runs the heritage house in jerusalem. he can often be found tabling at events in favor of ethnically cleansing the west bank.

NEW: Andrew Cuomo used ChatGPT to help write the housing plan he released this weekend, which included several nonsensical passages. The plan even cites to ChatGPT on a section about the Rent Guidelines Board. hellgatenyc.com/andrew-cuomo...

a lot of us tried to warn during the biden administration that the conflation of criticism of israel with anti-semitism was deeply dangerous. we're living with the fruit that conflation has borne.

one must again ask how most elected democrats have found themselves to the right of bill kristol on one of the most pressing moral issues of the day.

The Movie Theater Employees subreddit is a good follow because right now it's almost exclusively posts like this. Seriously feel terrible for these guys rn

THE RISE OF END TIMES FASCISM My first major piece of the new Trump era, co-written with @astra.bsky.social. The governing ideology of the far right has become a monstrous, supremacist survivalism. Our task is to build a movement strong enough to stop them. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

listening to this old rock 'n roll comp and it's late and I'm tired but I'm also semi-convinced that the jaynetts might have invented motorik a decade before neu.

watched GRAND TOUR @filmlinc.bsky.social. my favorite movie of the year so far—by some distance. it's endlessly inventive and bursting with indelible visual and narrative moments. the Blue Danube sequence is a particular highlight but the whole movie sings from beginning to end.

if this shit makes people stop using LLMs it'll have been totally worth it.

the moral horror of this is the main thing. but I also don't understand why democratic politicians would torch their own political futures like this.

This picture of Whitmer is a legitimately stunningly perfect depiction of the Democratic Party right now. A bunch of fucking cowards capitulating and complying. Secretly totally on board with fascism while hiding behind their labels and “lesser of two evils you have no choice but to vote for me”.

weirdly I was just thinking yesterday how it was at least a small mercy that we hadn't heard from liz breunig in a long, long time. but of course, there shall be no small mercies.

Good to see Rutgers and Georgetown supporting this effort. Lots of liberal arts colleges and Catholic universities. Ivies remain AWOL. Embarrassing.

This ruling is a disappointing setback in what we unfortunately knew would be a long and unnecessary process. I continue to stand with Mahmoud Khalil and will fight to bring him home and for every person’s freedom of speech. abcnews.go.com/amp/US/judge...

I made 250 copies of this terrific NYC Mayoral primary mini zine by @meganpiont.bsky.social and I'll be folding lots of them this weekend to hand out in various places: drive.google.com/drive/folder...

trump admin doing keystone cops shit is always the best part of a trump admin. more of this please!

this exactly.

So many of you good liberal Democrats conspired to bring us to this point. Equating any criticism of Israel's ongoing genocide with terrorism. Tossed our country's bedrock principles about speech into the shitter so Israel could go on killing. Calling peaceful protests anti semitic.

"Soldiers ordered residents to leave their houses for a couple of days and hand over weapons as they searched homes and buildings. When villagers returned, some found their houses destroyed or ransacked. Some buildings had Hebrew writing on the walls." A Syrian Nakba is currently underway.

AAUP has written a letter to NW U explaining why it has no legal obligation to comply with the request from Congress to hand over an incredible amt of info—including a professor’s performance reviews!—about its legal clinics 🧵https://www.aaup.org/sites/default/files/AAUP_Letter_to_Northwestern.pdf

yeah man, please make my 85 year old great aunt prove her citizenship to vote in rural georgia, this definitely isn’t reminiscent of anything in the american past
