‘Carlyle Hotel, Bayswater’ 1982. I wanted to capture the anonymous, transitory nature of this part of London where I lived 1976-1983 when I moved to East London, my home ever since. The painting now lives in the GuildHall Art Gallery and is currently on display.

Found out today that my gran (1895-1987) nearly died as a child from appendicitis. My great grandad fished on a herring boat to afford the operation to have her appendix removed. 1900. Risky operation, risky, risky ‘payment plan’. Never accept privatised medicine. It kills people.
