One of our Trustees, popped in to meet Heidi and her foster family today. Visitors are a new experience, for Heidi, she cautiously crept forward for some treats, giving a few gentle licks, it was evident that Heidi is decompressing from all the trauma she has endured Heidi is in the best of hands.

Flock after flock of cranes today, a sure sign of Spring 🇫🇷

Viktoria Amelina was a Ukrainian writer who documented Russian war crimes - until she became a victim of one of them. A Russian missile killed her in 2023. Her unfinished book hits the stores today, just as the world is about to turn a blind eye to Russian war crimes and force a bad deal on Ukraine

Cold in the river but a brilliant way to begin my week

There was a time when Cerise would never have sat close to me. It’s so normal it could be easy to forget how hard she’s worked to put her trauma behind her. Puppy farming destroys dogs’ happiness. For the few who are rescued, it can be a long time arriving. I’m grateful Cerise feels it every day.

One of the ways we can correct misinformation is with a technique called the truth sandwich. Here's a post about using truth sandwiches to correct myths about dogs and cats, from the archives www.psychologytoday.com/ca/blog/fell...

Breathe in the blue and fill your lungs with solace. A new blog post - perhaps a wee antidote for these troubled times 😊 #naturewriting #writingcommunity #landscapephotography notesfromasmallcroftbythesea.wordpress.com/2025/02/01/b...

A hint of spring in the wicklow woodlands and along the mountain rivers today. Dippers singing, woodpeckers chasing through the trees and Great Tits singing and displaying to each other.

Spot the differences: anxious dog on top, relaxed dog on the bottom, both adorable. Note the deeply furrowed face, wide pupils, listening ears, legs and tail tucked in a defensive position. Dogs can’t talk, but they can tell us so much through their body language.

Nanou, Angel (and her magical ears) and I went into town today, just us. It felt a little strange not to have Albert along with us as he goes everywhere I go, but he enjoyed helping Michel in the garden instead. Cerise and Tsuki both snoozed. Sometimes changes to routines are good for us.

It’s been a busy week. Amidst finishing a big writing project and almost completing a new thing there’s been a lot of urgent Schnauzerfest activity to manage. My planned week got skewed, but this is the work. Albert Claude insisted on a walk around the lanes. I was very grateful to him.

Scientists find that things really do seem better in the morning

Logged into Amazon to find lovely people still leaving reviews for my Christmas book in January! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘This debut is a warm and fizzy Christmas tale about what can happen when two broken people are in the right place at the right time’ Add to your TBR for Christmas 25! amzn.eu/d/bIRznrM

A single stem of white hyacinth on the kitchen windowsill. The knocking of the woodpecker on the trunk of a neighbour’s tree. It feels like we have turned a corner.

If you are able, please do support Indy bookshops. The near monopoly of an online giant is skewering the industry. Without Indies, we simply wouldn't be here. @bookcornerhx.bsky.social @serenitybookshop.bsky.social @trumanbooks.bsky.social @drakebookshop.bsky.social @forumbooks.bsky.social

Sun hungry Tsuki was soon joined by Angel

An interesting, reassuring read. And to me, this is key, “Be intentional about your media choices”

We’re hoping 2025 will see Schnauzerfest win one of these awards 🤞 As a small charity it’s not going to be easy as the more nominations, the higher the chance of winning. BUT, we know you’re with us and will give it a go 👊 PLEASE vote and then SHARE and ask your friends too 🙏

Angel ears

A word that needs reviving

It’s been on my TBR pile for too long. Glad for this stormy Sunday afternoon with free time to settle into it.
