This remains after many years a favourite film. Timeless. Poignant. It captures childhood no matter what era you grew up in but with a bitter twist at the end. grahamthomasauthor.wordpress.com/2024/09/01/a...

Sometimes it's easy to fall into the trap of 'only in Japan' but...where else would you see LPG tankers lined up neatly (and of course spotlessly clean.) They ply along the Seto Inland Sea moving LPG from terminals to local storage points.

The immediate area behind Tokyo's Shinagawa Station was once a beach where shell fish were gathered. It began to be reclaimed in the early 20th century. Post war it became a small entertainment area. Now? #photography #japan #urban #ArtYear #BskyArt #ArtShow #citylife #dailylife #EastCoastKin

This is an extraordinary sketch as it is certainly one of the earliest extant views of Japan created by a foreigner. Drawn in 1849 when the British ship HMS Mariner was visiting Japan, there is quite a tale to tell. grahamthomasauthor.wordpress.com/2024/09/10/h...

This remains one of my favourite films. Living In Two Worlds. grahamthomasauthor.wordpress.com/2024/10/27/l...

Perhaps I should explain what I like about this image. Through the undergrowth you can see a medieval church spire. I know that it is tall and towers over the village but here it has shrunk and hidden. #ClassicMono #Monochrome #Photography #ArtYear #BlueSkyArt #Cotswolds

Beautiful sunset over the Seto Inland Sea. Evenings like these remind me that numerous realities - good and less good - coexist at one time but the more time I spend with nature, the more uplifted I feel. #seascape #photography #BlueSkyArt #scape #japan

The effigy on the tomb of Edward II, a king that can be described as 'irresponsible, extravagant, lazy and stubborn.' Murdered in 1327. Buried in Gloucester Cathedral with his head now held by cherubs. Like most kings of the period he was more often swept along by events beyond his control.

Walked along the canal in Bridgwater yesterday. Built in 1827. Within 40 years already in decline and finally closed to commercial traffic in 1907. This brick and stone section is reminiscent of a moated fortress.

I was reading that Starbucks has opened its 2000 store in Japan. To answer the #BlueSkyArtShow #abandoned challenge here's an abandoned plastic cup aka litter outside the entrance to a beautiful Edo era house in Marugame, Japan. #photography

I am blessed with living in a spot in England where I can experience an infinite variety of sunrise. Sometimes the colours will last for only a minute or two as the sun creeps up to the horizon. This is from January. #dawn #BlueSkyArtShow #scape #skyscape #Cotswolds

With the weather front changing it was momentarily foggy this morning. I used a vintage lens on a modern mirrorless body which accentuates the fog and creates an in-lens vignette. #photography #BlueSkyArt #nature #trees #mystery #england #landscape

Little Dog for Roger (Malcolm Le Grice, 1967) Le Grice died in December. A counter-cultural film maker there are examples of his work online. In the late 60s early 70s he worked on 16mm film strips he found in Soho dustbins. youtu.be/m7tE0gybo3g?...

Well that's pretty niche, you might understandably think…currently I'm researching how postcards of the late Meiji period tell the story of Japan's emergence as a global power, and the predominant cultural influences that would define how Japan would project itself to the world.

My images for #Februarty #ArtYear are bundled up in this piece about the Setouchi Triennale that returns this year for its fifth outing. One of the great events of this #ArtYear IMHO this is an overview and a personal diary of my visits. grahamthomasauthor.wordpress.com/2020/03/05/s...
