Getting Started

I won a #chess game tonight with a queen sacrifice. I’ve been playing for years and that’s the first time I’ve found a queen sac mate. It was over the board as well. Honestly, what a buzz.

Section 31 down there with DS9’s Move Along Home and Voyager’s Threshold as some of the worst Trek ever. Utter dross. Couldn’t finish it.

In case you missed it: Harriet Harman, former BBC Director-General Lord Birt, and Lord Scriven have introduced an amendment to reform Parliament so that bishops can no longer claim 26 automatic reserved seats in the House of Lords. Long overdue reform! www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Just a reminder: There's 650 MPs in the Commons and only 427 seats. All sittings begin with Anglican-led prayers. MPs who attend prayers are more able to get seats and more likely to speak in debates. This has been common practice since 1567. Is this the way our democracy should be in 2025? No!

If DT genuinely wants Greenland, presumably "$1m each if you vote for independence (which DK has promised to honour) and then join the US" would work? Population around 50k, so would cost $50bn, less than 1% of the federal budget. Surely that's cheap? Not saying he should, but better than war.

I love the movie “Moneyball”. I’ve watched it multiple times on @netflix.com I discovered the movie “Air” tonight from a clip on YouTube. Netflix, your recommendation algorithm needs work, I should’ve discovered that months ago from you.

I adore Grace Dent; am so happy to see her join Masterchef. I don’t normally watch the Celeb MC but might have to give it a go this year. Assuming she does the full UK franchise I’m most excited to see the chemistry on MC Pros between her, Marcus and Monica.

Fascinating that Starbucks can have 1% of their product from dodgy sources, and instead of not mentioning it, their marketing dept have turned it into a selling point as “99% ethical”. Are consumers really that gullible?

Trying to understand the Syrian civil war over the last decade has always felt impenetrable. Not sure if what’s happening is ultimately for the good. But it seems things are at least getting simpler.
