social media literally has to use machine learning tools for moderation, idk what to tell you. I think in a lot of cases it would make sense to have more human supervision than currently exists but it's straight up not possible to do this without some form of "AI".

I state this confidently but I'm not actually sure it's true. I'm pretty sure it's true for bitcoin. If it wasn't bitcoin they would have to agree on one or make their own, which introduces some more problems.
