Besides Beers + Probst, do you have favorite professional texts for teaching nonfiction reading? #edusky #english #ela

On the cutting room floor is the bit where the host introduced their interview series, The Interview, and I asked how long it took to come up with the name. Anyway, here’s me talking about birds and science and burnout and moving through the world. The photo’s nice! www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

A great first day at Reading For The Love of It! Choosing which sessions to attend was the trickiest part. Each session was a great combo of confirmations of, and challenges to, my thinking. #RFTLOI #RFTLOI2025

Hello, world! ELAN Ontario is now on Bluesky. Please give us a like and a follow to help us start connecting our network of literacy educators in the province.

Brian Weishar is ELAN Ontario’s Past Chair and he is once again presenting at Reading For The Love of It! You can find info for Brian’s session, “The Sense(s) of Story,” here: readingfortheloveofit.com/sessions/202... #ELANatRFTLOI #RFTLOI @brianweishar.bsky.social

Introducing UNgrading to 9s & all week. 1 Ss' body language has strongly suggested they are not overly impressed. As they left today, I commented that it seemed the 'struggle is real' & the response was a vehement, 'Every Day!' But then they added: 'But this is inspiring me.' I was shocked!

Here's an article I would be all over if I was in a classroom right now. ✅ Effective expository mentor text ✅ Topic that is immediately relevant to teens ✅ Great examples of how to incorporate expertise and evidence into text ✅ Invites discussion about the relationship between commerce and media

@jasontries.bsky.social & I had a great time launching the Middle Years Digital Media Literacy Project with Apple Education & the Career Education Council. Students will develop transferable skills & digital media literacy through the use of iPads, which culminates with an App Development project.

Took a detour from #MoreThanWords from @biblioracle.bsky.social to read Nick Cave's discussion of creativity and ChatGPT. English teachers out there should give it a look - I bet it would make for some fascinating classroom discussions. #EduSky www.theredhandfiles.com/chatgpt-maki...

I founded a writing community for K-12 writer/designers and their teachers in 2008. We do action research and document our learning there. Its had a pretty significant influence on what happens in many schools and other learning spaces, too. Recently, friends in the field asked to pick my brain...

Tried my first #TQE discussion yesterday with my Grade 12s and I thought it went really well! Sorry @senior126.bsky.social that I left it all over the board. Also, I forgot to take it off again today 😬.

This is the kind of interactivity and form equaling function I’d love to see in online learning. @jasonhimsl.bsky.social www.reuters.com/graphics/VID...

Oh this is just *delightful*: for the opening of his documentary on the history of music on SNL, Questlove produced “a high-speed, six-minute DJ mix of SNL music highlights”. So good you’ll want to watch it way more than just once. [kottke.org]

As part of our formal summative task for #ENL1W1, students evaluated social media posts, found sources to verify, and then shared/discussed findings with peers, reflecting on their online sharing practices. Can you spot the misinformation? docs.google.com/document/d/1... #onted #EduSky
