Think I’ll pass on the piece in which a racist creep explains why a major party embracing the Nazi salute really isn’t a big deal.

A *must-read* analysis by @marknevitt.bsky.social. 1. Trump and Hegseth proposed replacement for Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair (Lt. Gen. Caine): He appears not to be qualified under the statute 2. Front-of-mind concern in removal of TJAGs: their legal advice on domestic deployment of U.S. military

I got a bunch of new follows. Hello, new friends.

Macron corrects Trump after he claims "Europe is loaning the money to Ukraine. They get their money back."

It’s a coup. It’s a strategic alliance with Putin. It’s the end of the post-war international order. It’s the triumph of lies over truth and in Putin’s case, evil over good. We are through the looking glass & we all now have to decide who we are & what we stand for

I realize no one wants to hear context and "how we got here" when things are so knife-edged right now. But if we really want to make this a "reforming" moment we need to push for the reigning in of presidential power and authority. The problem is that both sides like that when they have it.

Chaberlain was a colossus of deterrence compared to this

I’m George Takei and I approve of this message.

Trump called Zelenskyy, “a dictator” who “has done a terrible job.” Putin has got to be loving this.

Really don’t think we can understate how much troll culture is now political culture

The suggestion that Ukraine started the war with Russia is so bonkers that’s hard to comprehend an American president saying it. Yet, here we are. The man is repeating Russian propaganda and treating a country’s sovereignty like it’s a business deal.

But he does violate women.

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

"[For the Right], D.E.I...is the mere presence of a woman or nonwhite person or disabled or transgender person in any high-skilled, high-status position. And their alternative isn’t some heretofore unknown standard of merit; it is the reintroduction of something like segregation." (gift link)

Republicans are nanny statists now. Honestly, that blows my mind.

Agree. Fuck access. This is a perfectly fine hill for the AP to die on www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

I get that they’re doing this mostly as a weird flex to look tough to their base of incel losers. But if they actually got this — ten new states full of voters who hate Trump, with 20 senators and who knows how many House members — it would absolutely end them.

Does everyone know how bad the AfD is? Have you read their “manifesto”? I have. I’m attaching a snippet about some AfD members from Brittanica.com This is a corrupt party that spoons with Russia & China and loves Nazis. This is who JD “colored beard” Vance met with. It’s time for a bar fight.

WSJ Editorial page weighs in on the goings-on at DOJ. www.wsj.com/opinion/dani...

I’ve been deeply concerned about hyperpartisanship and the future of the United States for many years. I don’t think I’ve ever been as concerned as I am now. The breakdown in the rule of law and the constant punching down on certain communities, and the kowtowing to Russia are extremely troubling.

Per the Economist, Elon Musk has failed to cut any spending, now at $30 billion / day (was $26 /day last year). DOGE is just a weird mixture of a scapegoat ritual mixed with institutional vandalism by overgrown teenagers who don't know how things work. This is not libertarian. h/t Tim Wu

My wife takes antidepressants. Not taking them isn’t an option. I take a daily for anxiety disorder. Believe me, I’m a nicer and kinder person with that prescription.

AUSA Hagan Scotten, former clerk for John Roberts, really put some mustard on his resignation letter.

Nixon was in office for five years before the Saturday Night Massacre, Trump I for four before the threatened mass resignation that stayed his hand on DOJ-as-election-weapon. "In Trump’s second administration, it has taken only three-and-a-half weeks to bring the DOJ to a mass resignation event." /1

What a contemptible little shit. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

Vance is legitimizing a fascist party in Germany. There’s a reason every German party refuses to form a government with AfD. It’s because they remind them too much of their past experiences, but Vance wants Germany’s leaders to accept them. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

We wish our colleague @jasonpye.bsky.social every happiness imaginable as he celebrates his union with bride Emily. And thanks to the inestimable Van Jones for thoughtfully officiating this meeting of hearts and minds 💞

Critics say USAID was funneling millions to Politico. In reality, it appears the government was paying for subscriptions. That may or may not be a worthwhile use of government funds, but it does not represent some kind of direct subsidy to the news outlet.

I’ve long been an advocate of limiting tje size and scope of government. Anyone on this platform who knows me is aware of that. But this isn’t how I want to do it. The Constitution matters. It’s not something that can be disregarded by executive fiat.

Speaker Announcement🎙️ Michael Fanone courageously defended the Capitol during the January 6th attack, testified to the House Select Committee, and is a fierce advocate for justice & the rule of law. We’re thrilled he’ll be on the Summit stage. Join us: www.principlesfirst.us/summit/2025-...

Real freedom is being exposed to different ideas and critical thought, and then being able to make your own decision. Consequently, closing off exposure to difference limits our freedom.

Musk suspended (@anonopsse.bsky.social) after it helped expose his coup collaborators at DOGE.

I want to take two seconds to explain that, yes, we do have a Spending Clause. And to claim otherwise is absurd provocation that confuses a separate debate about constitutional limitations on federal spending. (I cannot believe I'm doing this but here we go.)

Joe Kent, the guy Trump is nominating to lead his counterterrorism division, employed Proud Boys and Patriot Front members, met with Nick Fuentes and sat down with a neo-Nazi YouTuber for an interview.

Musk has had no problem naming individual federal employees he thinks should be fired (see article). Now he wants anonymity and zero oversight for his officials who are creating a constitutional crisis. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/fake-jobs-...

RONALD REAGAN (1988): We should be aware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends, weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world—all while cynically waving the American flag.
