Thought I'd give my #SoundDesign students a proper introduction to cinema sound design. They loved it. #MakingWaves

No credits for this lazy editor!

Prepping tomorrow's class about sound in cinema in the 70s. It's going to be a fun one. So many good things and so many brilliant people happened to and upon cinema in that decade.

Steven Bernstein hitting the nail. 100% this.

A lot of shitty things happening in the world, as it always has throughout human history. But then I'm reminded I'm living in the age of Messi and that magic exists ✨ #Messiah

4 years since Jonny Greenwood gave us this gem. 🔥

I mean…

Officially professor of Sound Design!! 👨🏻‍🏫🎓🔊

Watched this video guide last week and it really is super easy to understand concepts I've spent years of my career trying to pull apart. I'd say it's a must watch for anyone wanting to create a physically realistic shooting experience for their game or movie. Articulate and straight forward

Flow is the first ever film from Latvia to be nominated for the Oscars or the Golden Globes. This really means a lot to us and hopefully will give a boost not just to the film industry but Latvians in general.

l've never reread the final draft of the Flow script since finishing it. I made the animatic based on my memory of the script. I thought that if the idea is strong enough, l'll remember it and put it into the film.

Just got word my next game cinematic project is reducing its scope so Im able to take on more projects! If you or anyone you know has need for a sound maverick thats passionate for telling stories through impactful, evocative sonic experiences lets get in touch! #sounddesign #gameaudio #filmsound 🔊

I asked our sound designer Gurwal to make this moment feel like as if a sound recorder on the set would actually be swept away by the flood. As if they wouldn’t be able hold on to the microphone and get the right levels making the sound just barely usable. I wanted it to feel rough, raw and dirty.

1993 Compaq Presario. The whole multimedia PC concept was novel and I remember being over the moon with the bundled LIFE Magazine and Encarta CDs for weeks for the simple fact that they contained audio AND video.

Dos 19 filmes da Mostra Competitiva da Berlinale, 8 são dirigidos por mulheres. São eles: Hot Milk La Tour de Glace If I Had Legs I’d Kick You Mother’s Baby Ari Reflect in a Dead Diamond Girls on Wire Timestamp

New on the sound map! 🐸 🗺️ This composition is built entirely from the sounds of blacksmith tree frogs in Brazil, and imagines their calls as illuminating the night as if it were silent, and the frogs were painting the sky like a canvas. Full piece: audioboom.com/posts/865215...

Celebrating my birthday with the traditional " Asado Uruguayo".

Our sound designer Gurwal, just sent me a clip of the real capybara voice. I think that we made the right call to use a baby camel voice instead.

Celebrating another leap around the Sun.

Nick Cage = absolute legend "if an actor lets one AI robot manipulate his or her performance even a little bit, an inch will eventually become a mile and all integrity, purity and truth of art will be replaced by financial interests only. We can’t let that happen." variety.com/2025/film/ne...

Hey sound designers and recordist in the US (mostly). I'm looking for some quality recs of suburban places with focus on cicadas specifically occurring in Austin, TX, during the summer months. Any lead you are certain of or if you have any yourself, please let me know! Thank you! #sfx

The deeper you delve into all of these fantastic YouTube channels, the better the stuff you discover. These channels feature uncommon, rare, and mainly commercially unavailable footage. We still have at least 40 channels to add to the list.

My 2025 hobby is helping my pals de-centre tech from their lives. Acquire CDs, records, DVDs, paper books, reference books, magazines, dictionaries, etc. Go to the library! Going analog is a small way to stop relying on tech bro monsters & helps preserve knowledge they're literally deleting.

Magnificent. It's like Welles, Dreyer, Chaplin and W.Disney got together to talk about what is cinema and then collectively dreamt this. For sound designers it is a masterclass on how to convey emotion with sound. The music is vibrant and titanic yet elegant and never ubiquitous or Mickey Mousing.

This gave me the chills. I had to pinch myself 🥹

"I really wanted James Coburn, but he was too expensive... we got Clint for $15,000." Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood are interviewed about working together on Leone's classic spaghetti western films of the 1960s. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj38...

“Spanish is a language of modest countries, developing countries, of the poor and migrants.” Very disappointed that the film community is celebrating Jacques Audiard. A deeply hispanophobic, transphobic, racist person.

Saw a very timely post from @randythom.bsky.social on "that other platform" yesterday. Trying to make lots of new stuff out of my comfort zone lately and this was a needed 🙏

"Cinema...it embodies the inventor’s dream, be he scholar, artist, engineer, or carpenter; it is the realization by kinochestvo of that which cannot be realized in life. Drawings in motion. Blueprints in motion. Plans for the future. The theory of relativity on the screen." Dziga Vertov, 1922.

1920s: Expressionism, Surrealism, Art Deco, Dada, Bauhaus, Russian avant-garde... 2020s: "AI"...replaced by Chinese "AI" 🥱

Thanks to @asoundeffect.bsky.social and @audiojeney.bsky.social for doing this interview with me about the sound design in Omaha. Really proud of being part of this extraordinary movie and I’m so happy that it’s getting amazing reviews at #Sundance2025 ❤️🔊 www.asoundeffect.com/the-sound-of...

Signed a contract today. I'm officially Sound Design professor at my local university! 🎓

What an astonishing thing a book is. It’s a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you’re inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. CARL SAGAN

Someday you will write the book. Most people will not read it. But someone will, and it will change something inside them. Then they will write a book, wholly their own, but slightly indebted to your ideas. And so on. The chain never ends. There are echoes of you at the end of the world.

I wrote about films that address Mexico’s drug war made by Mexican filmmakers for De Los. With the attention EMILIA PÉREZ is getting, these titles are even more timely. The piece is in print today at @latimes.com: www.latimes.com/delos/story/...

Here's how I used a miniature practical effect to create a huge starscape of "dark matter" for Pearl Jam's new tour, by filming sound-reactive magnetic fluid with a macro lens at 1000fps ultra slow motion. More details on my Patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/120707...
