Oooh hoooo! Big day for #PSXPC. Using a knock-off version of #Bomberman as a test-case I was able to successfully use (count them!) FOUR controllers simultaneously. Two are #PS3, using #Bluetooth; two are OG #PS1 connectors working in the original sockets! Now I just need some friends. Oh.

HOLY SHIT: the case closes!!!1! A #miniPC has been successfully* fitted into a classic #PlayStation case! #PS1 #modz #customPC *well, it's /physically/ in the case; functionality is yet to be determined... Stay tuned! Next time: what can I do with the gaping chasm where the CD drive used to be???

Took a bit of a break from the build, but it's a new year so let's go! It's possible that I'm trying to cram too much into the original #PlayStation case at this point. A desire to have a #USB 3.2 connection has led to an strange endeavour involving using string to route the cable around the CPU fan

You might think I spend all my time holed-up (down?) in the cellar workshop, and you'd be correct to think that's what I'd LIKE to be doing all day everyday! Unfortunately, work happens, even when everywhere is covered in ice, so I have to leave my #happyplace. #icebiking #snowbiking

#SIDEQUEST!

I've taken a slight step back from the brink of cramming everything into the classic '90s #PlayStation case; an all-up test of all the ports on the #miniPC #motherboard. It's quite satisfying to have everything laid out, and is a useful exercise in remounting everything else afterwards...

imagine when they saw playstation 2

Despite not quite managing to fit the #miniPC inside the #PlayStation case, along with all the many klicks of cabling, I'm going ahead with one of the stretch goals: to include a secondary storage HDD! Using some antique #Meccano strips to mount it :-D #mod #modeverything #recase #boxmod #modbox ???

PIVOT What's the point of posting regularly if I don't ever post anything important...? open.substack.com/pub/veganhor... #vegan

I've taken a break from attempting to sort out the insane wiring inside this classic #PlayStation case to make some progress on the #portreplication on the back. It seems to have come together well, and just needs some minor tidying. This #miniPC is ready to surf the #informationsuperhighway!

I previously talked about stretch goals, but this project is more like squeeze goals... The cramming of all the wires into the #PlayStation case continues. If only the #miniPC could be a bit MORE mini! #PSXPC #playstationmodz

We've got to the point in this #miniPC build where I THINK I've got all the cabling in one place for the first time. ...and it's a lot. Obviously, some serious cable-management is in order, but can it even be made to fit in a classic #PlayStation case...? (And then there's the stretch goals...)

The first test of all the "custom" wires did NOT go well... This classic #PlayStation project to recase a #miniPC requires a rethink (and much resoldering) because it appears there is NO way to turn off power to the USB ports when the power is off. Annoying. I should have tested first... 🀦🏽

One of the stretch goals for this #PlayStation #miniPC build is to replicate ALL of the ports onto the external PlayStation case. It's tricky, because I'm trying to use only parts I already have (budget...) The worst soldering job I've had in a LONG TIME is attempting to join headphone\mic wire. Ugh

FINALLY finalised where the #miniPC motherboard will be located inside the classic #PlayStation case! Unfortunately, that place is right down against the bottom, where the #CPU fan intake is... Time to drill! ...didn't go as neatly as planned, but ventilation is GREATLY improved. #nooneneedeverknow

Where would we be without #technicolour heatshrink tubing, multi-coloured jumper cables, and the #uraniumglass (ish...) glow of an original #PlayStation power #LED? #oldskool Finished #soldering & insulating the 5V wiring loom, using #raspberrypi fans. Cooling is the theme of this week's work!

There surely comes a point in every #modz project where the modder wonders if the goal is achievable, right? All the bits fit, just not at the same time... #PlayStation #keeponkeepingon #miniPC #retrogaming
