Smokey Quartz is next on our list. Smokey quartz has aluminum impurities. Those impurities are being exposed to radiation which why it has that color. This radiation can come from the decay of minerals. Smokey quartz did have the use of sunglasses in ancient China. #Blacksky #Geology #Rockhound

I love this rock right here. A perfect example of going through the whole rock cycle. This spinel is from Mogok Burma. The spinel came the deep parts of the mantle, erupted out. Weather from the igneous rock, deposited where limestone form, then due to metamorphism turn in marble. #Geology #Blacksky

If you head South Park Mall in Charlotte NC the flooring is made of fossiliferous limestones likely quarried from the Franconian Region of southern Germany. The limestone was deposited ~160 million years ago, during the Late Jurassic. Love urban geology #Geology #Paleontology #Blacksky #Rockhound
