When they can pretend the violence came from the left, they insist all Democrats are responsible and ideology is to blame. When there's no denying the violence came from the right, though, they back off and pretend ideology had nothing to do with it. Certainly not anything *they* said.

Tehran’s population is larger than the population of New York City.

When asked in 2024 if mass deportations would harm Florida's agricultural industry, a farmer-legislator confidently said Trump wouldn't actually engage in an indiscriminate mass deportation program. Even if that did happen, he said, there will always be a supply of H-2A workers. (Pub. Oct. 2024)

I’m not trying to persuade them. I’m trying to push them into the dustbin of history.

True.

Dr. Fiona Havers, the scientist who oversees the team responsible for collecting data on COVID-19 and RSV hospitalizations used to shape national vaccine policy has resigned, telling CDC colleagues she no longer had confidence data would be used "objectively,” per Reuters.

We absolutely must not forget what this administration did to Senator Padilla, because it tells us what they are willing to do to us.

I agree, but probably not for the same reasons

Thread: one way to understand the Trump tax cut legislation is that it seeks to do what he could not do in his first term: reverse key parts of the Affordable Care Act

really bad look for Schumer and Jeffries that they spent Saturday at a billionaire’s wedding in the Hamptons rather than linking arms at No Kings marches like real opposition leaders www.nytimes.com/2025/06/14/u...

Some of them supported the war and then later blamed it on their Harvard education even.

Everything we’re dealing with now is fallout from decades’ worth of mistakes that have been compounded because the people who made them have hung onto power and hidden their crimes. God help us. What a truly awful moment and we’re all stuck here against our will.

@wilderness.org doing good work with this map. Really puts the Senate’s public lands fire sale in perspective. Western conservationists must call their Senators. #OurPublicLands #ForestService

JUST DO IT, DEMS.

Trump's new focus on "remigration"—an idea borrowed from the European ultra-right that means forcing non-white people, even legal citizens, out of the country—portends something sinister. I discuss with @gregsargent.bsky.social on the Daily Blast podcast: newrepublic.com/article/1968...

Fifa’s much-hyped Club World Cup and Concacaf’s Gold Cup opened to crowds far short of what organizers might have hoped.

Republicans continue to inflict generational damage on research in the name of cost-cutting, but costs aren't being cut. They're not even paying down the federal debt. Instead, they're going to take on more debt while redirecting research funds to foreign labor camps and domestic occupation armies.

U.S. Senate Republicans unveiled Monday that they plan to raise the country’s debt limit by $5 trillion in the “big, beautiful bill,” a full $1 trillion more than House GOP lawmakers proposed in their version. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2025/06/16/r...

FIFA now treating the US as akin to Qatar and Russia: hosts whose local politics must be catered too even if it means abandoning prior stated goals. One difference is that much of the institutional racism and saber rattling by the US is directed at the other two co-hosts: Mexico and Canada.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate added a mandate to the budget bill to sell enormous swaths of public land managed by the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management.

The “beautiful” bill got uglier. “On Tuesday, June 10, this plan was added to the draft legislation of President Donald Trump’s tax and spending megabill by the Energy and Natural Resources Committee in the U.S. Senate.”

It's a busy election day tomorrow — largely in Virginia. What should you be watching? Well, here it is in guide form: boltsmag.org/whats-on-the... But here are the top 5 races I'm watching, in 🧵-form:

Trump leaves G7 summit early citing Middle East tensions

Spend time with weekend reads about Carl Jung’s five pillars of a good life, an infamous escape artist, Donald Trump’s right-hand man, and more.

This is an absolute betrayal of promises made by Congress to protect the people who protected American soldiers. A betrayal by people who think American greatness is based on half-assed military parades rather than being a credible ally to those that risked their lives for America.

He did rename a few military bases though.

If the thesis here about MAGA is correct then "respect and empathy" is exactly wrong. The article describes them as knowingly choosing destruction over a better life for everyone including themselves because they're bitter. Coddling them won't change that, it just validates their hateful choices.

Chinese embassy in Israel has advised Chinese citizens to leave israel using border crossings Russia has issued the same warning

REMINDER: Tomorrow, the 9th Circuit will hold a hearing on the government's request to halt the TRO blocking Trump's federalization of the California National guard. Background below.👇 www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

This is part of why I think "evacuate Tehran" is just bluster. What really happened isn't even about Iran, it's that Trump did his usual thing at G7 but nobody said "sir yes sir" to it so he got mad and left. Then, being a grossly irresponsible toxic manchild, he blew off steam by threatening a war.

UPDATED TODAY: If you're looking to get in touch with us about a specific issue related to the Trump administration, we've got a list of the federal agencies/topics our reporters are covering + their secure contact information 👇

Meanwhile in Russia: Vladimir Solovyov and his fellow propagandists discussed Iran and laughed at Trump's parade. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAKP...

So Trump's leaving early from G7 ostensibly to attend to Israel-Iran war that Israel launched against his wishes. Then he refused to sign G7 statement on the war demonstrating he's odd man out wherever he goes. Then he pushed for Putin membership in G7 and got snubbed. So now going home in a snit.

Instead of Trump-Zelenskyy meeting, this has been added to the schedule The Prime Minister will participate in the G7 working breakfast on a strong and sovereign Ukraine with G7 leaders and invited guests.

“I was wrong about Trump Entire Trump family are nepotistic extractive grifters” “Getting us into another large scale conflict in the Middle East… …bait[ed] the Right into cheering on a federal police state” “The entire MAGA campaign was a fraud. We got duped. Feels horrible.” #LeopardsAteMyFace

Show me an authoritarian state and I'll show you their “Dear Leader” loyalty tests,  Replacing a merit-based system with political cronyism will destroy critical services and undermine our democracy. Do you want our air traffic controllers to take a skills test or a Trump test?
