So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID. This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC. What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

"What's your plan in the next few months?" is something we discuss a lot in immigrant circles. Future looks bleak here, not sure our time and efforts will be rewarded in any way in this country.

The Nazi salute has become so common in the last few weeks here, this period will go into history books (if we do have history books) in the future

What an absolute shame....the world (especially China) will sprint ahead in it's leadership towards chimate change mitigation but this country will go back to the start line. Good luck!

So many people have been posting about being directly or indirectly impacted by the decisions of the new administration that I'd find a few of them at my local bar here in Denver. Linkedin, Twitter full of posts from federal employees.

This agency is the place that stops hackers from shutting down the power grid

China encourages it's young minds to study in some of the best schools and then contribute to public service - which is why it is leading in most frontiers of research and innovation. Meanwhile here people are forced to leave public service to improve efficiency.

Ratioed boooooo

Bright passionate people who wanted to dedicate their lives to public service were fired in a mass email over the holiday weekend. This has absolutely nothing to do with efficiency, fraud, waste, or abuse. And your life will be worse because of it.

And they lecture about free speech to European nations

After the brutal and unfair job cuts in several organizations, please remember that a lot immigrants on work visas will have less than 2 months to find a new job. These immigrants who left the private sector for public service, also have to face unfair immigration laws! Please keep them in mind!

Musk firing 330 from the National Cancer Institute That's 10 percent of workforce. FUCK CANCER AND FUCK THESE FIRINGS www.splinter.com/the-unhinged...

The world’s richest and most pathetic man is dismantling the country so he can take your money and your job. If you go on TV, say this

Leader in power and energy research? πŸ˜•πŸ˜•

Folks are shocked that their institutions, after professing commitments to climate justice and DEI, are now caving to Trump and scrubbing all references. It's brutal. And it's the smallest taste of what our students felt when their universities called in the cops b/c they protested a genocide.

1/ 🚨New study alert!🚨 πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘ My DukeU colleagues and I just released a 1st-of-kind study on how the US grid could integrate up to 100 gigawatts of data centers w/out major new infrastructure, provided modest load flexibility (0.5%/yr). AI load growth can be managed faster, cheaper, & cleaner. πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡

WAY surpasses Watergate. It’s the most serious constitutional crisis since 1861.

the first fatal commercial plane crash in 16 years happened just days after Trump froze hiring of air traffic controllers that were already stretched thin

A family member of mine just got offered a federal buyout … and he is in the middle of investigating one of the largest companies in the world for breaking U.S. law. Just a reminder of who this benefits.

Folks wanting updates from NSF, they just posted this: new.nsf.gov/executive-or... Stop work order for "conferences, trainings, workshops, considerations for staffing and participant selection, and any other grant activity that uses or promotes the use of DEIA principles and frameworks..."

Standard "This will be fought in court, and we should not assume it will be implemented as written, especially because there are a lot of vagaries as written (as Erin points out)" aside: Fuck everyone who built the road to this point.

I voted no on the confirmation of Sean Duffy because Donald Trump is unconstitutionally freezing federal funding that Congress approved to benefit the American public. Democrats must stand up to this unlawful power grab. The consequences are enormous.

Also really worried for clean energy research in this country. Not sure if we immigrants even have a future in the clean energy space here...

Will Trump voters ever understand this?

Life as an immigrant working in the renewable energy space is gonna be full of anxiety for the next 4 years. Worst case scenario - we move to countries which will actually prioritize grid decarbonization!!

Is it fine to call everyone who voted for this president racist, bigoted fuckwads, or are people still trying to pretend this had something to do with groceries??

3 hour bus commute on the Bustang (Colorado state transport) for a meeting with a rural electric co-op utility in Colorado, all while reading a book by on the history of electrification in the New Deal era! Couldn't have asked for a better commute!

@the-breakdown.bsky.social is there a chance we could have Sandeep Vaheesan on the podcast? :)

Right in time before the holidays! Year end reading sorted! #energysky

Everyday Twitter experience - climate/energy media outlet leadership posting trash in the comments and block you when you criticize Dem politicians. PS: a lot of the projects that I work on are benefiting from the IRA, but dare I criticize politicians on other policy issues 🀑

Do we have reports/papers/articles/podcasts on current public ownership models of utilities and how these models are benefiting the citizens, especially the working class? Woud love to see more comms on successful implementations of public ownership models. #energysky

Internalize the fact that FDR was a master propagandist and budgeted messaging into every New Deal project. Despite how it should work, great things do not sell themselves.

Waiting for such days in the US!

Biked around the Big Bear Lake and visited a couple of national parks in California this long weekend. One of the few states in the US I love visiting every now and then, so much to offer!

I am once again asking The Democrats to make Project 2025 a topic of national conversation.

Came across this line in one of the project documents "...the proposed geothermal heat pump system will save ___ kwh/year...." While working on reaearch projects is good, it feels great to assess such clean energy projects ready for field deployment.

I am interested in hearing what #energysky thinks about the Manchin-Barraso Energy Permitting Reform Act πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘
