Everything is great about the PAISS summer school: the speakers, the organizers, the location, even the date (early September, not impacting potential personal summer vacation plans). Check it out! 👌

Good intention, but we need much more if we want to take advantage of what's happening in the US. "The overall ERC budget from 2021 to 2027 is more than €16 billion" erc.europa.eu/about-erc/er...

"Science is an investment. We will put forward a new 500 million package for 2025-2027 to support the best and the brightest researchers and scientists from Europe and around the world." — President @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu at the ‘Choose Europe for Science' event at La Sorbonne 🇫🇷

Good point. Makes me realize that I should stop saying 'my partner' and start saying the other human in my bedroom. Or rather the bedroom in the house in which I often sleep.

From now on, this what i mean when i say that our power analysis is inspired by previous literature

My favorite straw man

Every now again it’s useful to repeat advice about accessing papers that are behind a paywall that excludes you. Email the author. My estimate is that 90% of academics are so thrilled that a living, breathing, possibly even reading, person shows interest that they will swiftly send you a copy.

📢 We have an opportunity for students to join our PhD programme in Theoretical Neuroscience and Machine Learning this September. Application deadline is 27 May 2025. Information & how to apply: www.ucl.ac.uk/gatsby/study-and-work/gatsby-unit-phd-programme

I'm sure Madona is not her name, but wait this is a great idea: adopt your lab's name as your artistic name. Henceforth, pease call me Johnny At-the-intersection-of-AI-and neuroscience

It's totally unacceptable to say 'my lab'. Also, please stop saying 'my street' or 'my parents'. It's really offensive to your neighbours and siblings.

There are few fully-funded PhD positions left for this year’s Theoretical Neuroscience/ Machine learning program at Gatsby! Apply by May 27 and start in September. Please distribute broadly

"Our results demonstrate that the better a model understands the data, the more effectively it can compress it, suggesting a deep connection between understanding and compression." - such a cool implication

Our research group in the department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Basel (Switzerland) is looking for several PhD candidates and one post-doc who have a theoretical background in optimization and machine learning or practical experience in the field of reasoning.

Good time to remind us that "the average human has one testicle and one breast"

I’ve never understood why Americans don’t want the same kinds of environments they love when they travel, at home.

Every year at the end of the semester, I ask the students in my Psych of Language class to create memes about what they've learned. They then vote for their favorites. Here's the winner about how the idea of a universal grammar is no longer as compelling as it once seemed. 1/5

ICLR 2026 in Rio! suddenly, I am interested in LLMs

I'd say AGI is already here. We got it by training on wikipedia and reddit but still worth checking this cool conference!

💥 Do we now have all the components necessary to reach #AGI, or are there more discoveries to be made? Can the study of the brain help provide them? We tackle these questions and more at our Conference on the Mathematics of Neuroscience and AI in sun-soaked Split, Croatia: www.neuromonster.org

1. Can you figure out where I was standing when I took this picture? ChatGPT could. Given the photograph (scrubbed of all header information), the new chain of thought model, ChatGPT o.3, was able to pinpoint the location with a few meters.

Inria is opening a Junior Professor Position (tenure track) at Saclay on the topic of Cognitive Computational Neuroscience. This junior professorship is part of the development of computational cognitive neuroscience within @univparissaclay.bsky.social #Neurospin @neuropsi.bsky.social and #inria

you know how they say 'if the product is free you are the product'? This used to make sense, but with rogue companies like google we now pay for their product AND we are the product. PSA: you can get rid of gmail and dropbox with proton mail, fully encrypted proton.me/family
