We are having work done in the kitchen and have keep the cats confined. Three are in the study and one is in our bedroom as she is recovering from surgery. I worry that the three in the study are plotting against us.

Have made my way into Boston for a visit with my neurologist. Will I get any answers or just more questions?

Cannot seem to catch a break. Have to run Vesta to the ER with what is like an intestinal obstruction.

Just got the breakdown of my bill for my two night stay at Boston Medical and OMFG! It will be the insurance industry that pushes me to the far left

So, Artemis, our little grey kitten, got into the space between the second and first floors of the house. We had to get her out via the drop ceiling of the first floor bathroom. Don’t know how she got in, but she is too smart for her own good.

ATA snuggles this morning

Another moron thought that it would be a good idea to drive their car through my front yard. This time the curb and stop sign got them. You would think that people living in New England would know how to handle snowy streets, but no.

From the other day, but Vesta and Ata decided to take in some sun rather than run through the house like a pair of wild bison

Concur Travel & Expense = university effort to discourage faculty travel

The frustration of having double vision and a computer that does not want to work properly is a recipe for shit getting broken

The staff at Boston Medical have been fantastic. Hopefully I get to leave this afternoon, but either way the care has been amazing.

Ophthalmologist visit this morning results in being told I am to go immediately to the ER in Boston. Bypassing the one minutes from my house because “they won’t do anything.” Eyes are healthy so this is a neurological issue I guess & the response suggests a pretty serious one. This sucks!

Finally have a theory about the cause of my double vision. Immediate consequence is that I must now adopt a pirate life. No parrot for this kid, I am bringing my cat who often thinks she is a parrot.

It does not make any sense to me that in an area with two universities right next to each other that there is no place to get good coffee at night.

Lucky to have great neighbors. My double vision is not any better & we got six inches of snow last night. One neighbor, who looks just like Santa, took care of the snow for me. Lucky and grateful.

What's the german word that means "the terrible pit in my stomach knowing that my own research + the lit in general says trying to cut off the far right by moving right never works anywhere but the Democratic party is throwing their entire body behind this exact strategy"?

Good news: sinus infection & severe cough are much better. Bad news: I have developed double vision. Hoping it is just a temporary side effect of the meds they have me on.

Have a bad cold and should be getting rest. Why I cannot get any rest

Discovers this when I was living in Texas. Now a Christmas staple! m.youtube.com/watch?v=P37x...

Enchilada prep is underway

Final grades are submitted. Unfortunately, my responsibilities as chair last a bit longer so I cannot celebrate the start of my sabbatical just yet.

New fridge and dishwasher for Christmas. The former leaks when you use the water and install of the latter thwarted by pipe that belongs in basement & not running along the back of the lower cabinets. Former covered, but latter requires another dishwasher or plumbing work

Chicken broth has never tasted so damn good!

I am fairly tolerant of day-to-day human dumbfuckery, but I cannot deal with holiday dumbfuckery. What is it about the holidays that cases people to check common sense & become even more entitled?

Artemis recovering from Thursday’s surgery by cuddling with Ata.

Just Vesta napping on her daddy. Not pictured is Artemis asleep on my legs

Today's grading: Final projects from my liberal education seminar requiring students to select or develop a model of liberal education and then develop a mission statement for how they can satisfy the requirements of their model within BSU's CORE & their major(s). Should be some interesting reading.

Boom! Just like that the third Honors Thesis defense is in the books. Ending the semester on horror, fear, & the political thought of Edgar Allan Poe with a little bit of St. Augustine thrown in for good measure.

Grading for first of three classes is done! Final papers come in tomorrow for second class and Wednesday of next week for the third. One step closer to sabbatical!

Today’s honors thesis defense was on Judith Shklar’s thought and it’s applicability to criminal justice reform. Student did a great job. One more scheduled for tomorrow.

Yesterday's Honors Thesis defense was great. My student was poised and confident in her defense and answered all of our questions. In case anyone is interested, her thesis focuses on the figure of Alcibiades to get at the analysis of political ambition in Thucydides, Aristophanes, & Plato.

I wonder how many people know that the chipotle sauce in the cafeteria is chipotle mayo and not sour cream

Heading over to friends later for Thanksgiving. We will bring cornbread dressing with sausage & jalapeños, bourbon orange cranberry sauce, & French onion tartlets with brie

Thankful for this great television moment

Bourbon orange cranberry sauce makes the house smell so good.

Thanksgiving prep is under way. Jalapeño cheddar sausage balls are done, in the freezer, & ready for tomorrow’s breakfast. Next on the agenda is cornbread.

The end of the semester is always rough, but a bright spot is reading the theses I was privileged to supervise. I am always impressed by the quality of the work and how much students change (for the better) over the course of their projects.

12:30 meeting cancelled so this afternoon will be spent on the couch with the kittens reading Locke’s Second Treatise

Atalanta (Ata for short) getting some belly loves
