When you kick a pirate in the crotch

pubmed, but with sleeker fashion and more walkable city centres

This is a excellent summary of what investment in high-speed rail can accomplish. This can and should be done as a fully public undertaking. Stop partnering with subcontractors and competitors! www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...

i saw your post the first 5000000 times you boosted people quoting it into my feed. I probably am not going to learn anything from the 5000001th boost. Man this place needs timed mutes across the board.

As U.S. public health is collapsing, Canada is building up our infrastructure globalnews.ca/news/1077282...

Ahh, more info about the whole Free Our Feeds thing. Freeing it by putting it on a blockchain, apparently. www.prnewswire.com/news-release...

Related: libraries relying increasingly on subscriptions and "perpetual access" from vendors instead of actually owning things in either physical or digital form.

In case you didn't know, there's a handy dandy tool for searching current tariffs on imported and exported goods to/from Canada, thanks to BDC, EDC, and the Trade Commissioner Service www.tariffinder.ca/en/

today's geopolitical / "diplomatic" shenanigoats are reminding me of this ancient YouTube video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi8S...

yay democracy

I think about this headline all of the time.

"After years of displaying the American flag at the arena inside the West Lincoln Community Centre, the local council has voted to take it down." buff.ly/3DcddCz #Niagara #CdnPoli

ok my puppy skinny all right

Voted. I always like to vote on actual voting day as opposed to mail-in or advance voting (not that those are bad! They're lovely!) because I do like the pomp and circumstance of going to Someplace On Official Voting Day and voting. Plus the poll workers are always so nice.

We're "taking" calls! That's right, it's a call-in show and we're totally "live"! Get all your questions "answered" by the "professionals"! Ring-a-ling! #FinishIt finishitpod.com/2025/02/27/3...

If you're keeping score, the NDP and Greens are implitctly committing about $1.5B/year to PSE student and institutions, the Tories between $150-200M/year (a bit unclear because some of their apprenticeship funding will go to unions), and the Liberals are offering negative $2-3 billion. Happy voting!

It is so fascinating how no university wants to get out ahead of others on this so they try to play it cool as long as they can then they start screaming and panicking all at once.

I am 51 years old and I have been playing video games since I was six years old, on a Pong console. Safe to say I have been gaming for pretty much longer than anyone you know unless you know some old nerds who were on PDPs playing Space Travel or oscilloscopes with Tennis for Two.

It's ridiculous to me how difficult it is for the average person to understand what an academic librarian does.

I am ordering all of my opinion-writing employees to only write about the importance of personal liberty, if they don't want to write on the assigned topic, they will lose their jobs

New: Jeff Bezos emailed staff at the Washington Post this morning announcing that the Post opinion pages going forward were largely going to focus on defending personal liberties and free markets. Current opinion section editor David Shipley is out.

This is objectively great and the vile hatred that some folks on this website are committed to is really, really, gross. If you’re so polarized that you’re going, “no, I’d rather the children die” then you need to have a long hard think about where you sit in this moment.

And not one of the polite ones. We’ve written a response to @nytimes.com’s Peter Baker and every other American who is taking the annexation of Canada as a fun thought experiment. Here in @foreignpolicy.com with my daughter @alicesouthey.com. Gift link.
