Hey #energysky lawyer friends, what does it mean for FERC that the White House has issued an EO to make independent agencies, well, not independent? Can the AG overrule FERC? www.whitehouse.gov/presidential... @energylawjeff.bsky.social @azevin.bsky.social @smaczni.bsky.social @pquinlan.bsky.social

“refusing to spend money appropriated by Congress under the euphemism of a pause is a violation of the rule of law and suggests that the executive branch can overrule the other two co-equal branches of government. This is contrary to the constitutional framework and not the way our democracy works.”

The state of California has the second most battery energy storage; only China has more. California has increased 1,340% in the past 6 years to 13,391 MW today. The speed of development is stunning: - 5 years to reach 10,000 MW (early 2024) - just 6 months to add the most recent 3,000 MW.

Entire USAID agency worldwide was deleted by a consulting government employee with no authority to do so. It’s a constitutional crisis that puts US national security at risk and normies won’t get this until legacy media says this clearly and loudly.

PDX #energysky, are yall up for an IRL gathering in these dark times? Anyone game for a HH tomorrow (Thurs)?

The Treasury webpage for IRA tax incentives guidance has been taken down home.treasury.gov/policy-issue... Anyone know if this is representative of a policy action, compliance with an EO, or DOGE-related activity? #energysky

The country's first fully-underground electrical substation broke ground this week in Cambridge, MA. As one builder put it, this facility is "an innovative beast!" www.wbur.org/news/2025/01... #energysky #climatesky @eversource.bsky.social

Can you impound a tax credit? The Administration includes tax incentives (including the IRA #energysky) alongside outlays/obligations in its target list It is unconstitutional for the Executive Branch to pick what parts of the tax code to enforce. It is also antithetical to doing business in the US

The 1st trade Executive Order is out: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential... Cites basically all trade authorities to tell USTR, Commerce, Treasury, etc to do policy reviews and come back April 1 with recommendations. Note also potentially expanding ICTS transaction controls + updates to AD/CVD process

The largest single location of battery storage is on fire, Vistra's 750 MW / 3000 MWh. PG&E's 182.5 MW / 730 MWh facility is just over the fence. Thankfully sounds like no one hurt. Still feeling shocked, frustrated, worried. It doesn't matter who you work for in the industry, this is just terrible.

And thus was the compliance market for time-matched clean energy certificates born! These rules would enshrine the T-EAC approach supported by Google over the locational marginal emissions approach supported by Meta. I expect this will extend far past 45V accounting to power sector policy generally

I agree with @jburwen.bsky.social ... the stand-alone energy storage ITC pretty much eliminated any weather-related grid supply concerns in CA & TX during the '24 summer! What a great story! Wasn't that long ago we were up on Capitol Hill advocating for the ITC!👍 www.canarymedia.com/articles/bat...

Dear #energysky, in 2025 may the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your transmission towers

BloombergNEF: "Battery prices saw their biggest annual drop since 2017. Lithium-ion battery pack prices dropped 20% from 2023 to a record low of $115 per kilowatt-hour." about.bnef.com/blog/lithium...

Minimum generation events are becoming a real issue in SA

US power demand now projected to grow by 128 GW by 2029! Last year, Grid Strategies broke the news that utilities and system operators had doubled their forecasts for electric demand growth from 2022 – a sudden jump driven by data centers and industrial load, among other factors.🧵 1/4 🔌💡

The @robgramlichdc.bsky.social load growth report is out! tl:dr - it's a lot (135GW by 2029). Check it out #energysky: gridstrategiesllc.com/wp-content/u...

A 53 MWh #energystorage facility using 2nd life EV batteries is online in ERCOT! Exciting to see this concept becoming real. Hoping it proves out as safe and reliable, as we have 10x the capacity in cars as on the grid #energysky #battchat www.canarymedia.com/articles/lon...

I cannot imagine a nominee with more technical and commercial understanding of EGS and need to deploy geothermal for clean, firm power. www.politico.com/news/2024/11...

I think @brendan.bsky.social and I get to claim the first IRL #EnergySky meetup. Don’t forget to gather and build community between skeets, friends

If you're wondering how actual utilities and installers feel about "advanced conductors" I had a long talk about it with some overhead lines experts and: it's negative

So is #EnergySky robust enough that we can do meetups IRL? Any interest in an #EnergySky HH this coming Monday in Portland OR?

Hey #EnergySky the California Energy Storage Alliance seeks a new policy director. This is such an important job, not just for advancing battery storage but also for driving the market for LDES. Spread the word! storagealliance.org/careers
