If some NBA coach doesn't run picket fence on the first possession tonight what are we even doing here?

Richard Scott, Jerry Anderson and Charles Blair Macdonald were named the 2025 induction class for the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame this afternoon. They'll be enshrined in a ceremony in August during the CPKC Women's Open ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/three-t...

The Boston Celtics used volume shooting from three-point range to win the NBA championship and are still putting up the most three-point attempts this season. The Toronto Raptors put up the second fewest threes in the league and therein lies the difference ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/raptors...

Had a conversation with a non political person whose buddy works for the forest service and was 10 months into his job supplying hard to reach parts of a national forest and was fired. The guy talking to me was like “I don’t really think my buddy’s $50,000 salary is gonna balance the budget.”

I went to the monthly Leaside card show on Sunday and one of the dealers had this incredible piece of Raptors memorabilia: a branded briefcase that has a Mitchell and Ness jersey signed by Vince Carter. When you open the briefcase a video of Carter's Raptors highlights plays on loop

Chelsea Green, the longest reigning women's U.S. champion in WWE history, is at the Raptors game tonight. Arguably the biggest winner in Scotiabank Arena tonight, including the NBA champion Boston Celtics

For the US to side with Russia and North Korea to oppose a UN resolution condemning the illegal invasion of Ukraine defies all common sense and adds insult to the countless injuries suffered by the brave Ukrainian people. edition.cnn.com/2025/02/24/p...

B.C. is losing three terrific newspapers. I’m so sorry for their staff.

It seems almost unavoidable at this point that we are headed for a deep, deep recession. Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.

Sorry but this is plainly a lie as anyone with eyes to see can tell. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

Somehow I was convinced by @awadhwani-smith.bsky.social to do The Push Up Challenge, which is a fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association. I've since done over 700 push ups, so please donate to make this worth the pain. www.thepushupchallenge.ca/fundraisers/...

Bill Guerin, you total moron. Days before the most anticipated best-on-best game in over a decade, maybe longer, at a time where Canada is in genuine danger from Donald Trump, and you jump face-first into saying you want Trump to come to the game. You total moron. www.thestar.com/news/gta/we-...

I'm impressed by how Vladdy handled everything this morning. He's drawn a clear line on his number, which he says the #BlueJays were not close to, but multiple times he made it clear that he wants to keep distractions away from his team and that he wants to be in Toronto.

The other fucking reason I don't trust "AI" for anything

The fun part is over now... and all of the versions of Vladdy you've grown to love are at risk of becoming memories. My story from Dunedin this morning on Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the #BlueJays: www.mlb.com/bluejays/new...

Hamilton's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander returns to the all-star game tomorrow on a squad almost entirely made up of international players. The NBA's deputy commissioner thinks that Gilgeous-Alexander could have the same kind of impact as Vince Carter or Steve Nash in Canada www.cbc.ca/sports/baske...

I've updated the starter pack for reporters, editors and photographers at The Canadian Press! Feel free to use it to quickly get up to speed on all of our work at Canada's leading news service go.bsky.app/PE3Ue74

Nothing will put the “co-president” meme to rest better than an exclusive joint interview of the co-presidents.

Elon Musk to reporter: “We post our actions to the DOGE website. All of our actions are maximally transparent. I don’t know of a case where an organization has been more transparent than the DOGE organization.” Here’s the doge.gov website IN ITS ENTIRETY. It’s literally a blank page!

Nothing makes me feel like a crotchety old man like a late start time for a major sporting event in the Eastern time zone. How is the 4 Nations Face-Off growing the sport of hockey if the puck drops at 8:30 p.m. on a school night? How are kids supposed to watch this?

Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order. TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

So many new followers the last week! (Can't imagine why that is...) If you are looking for journalists to follow, here's a starter pack of Black Press reporters based in British Columbia that I put together. bsky.app/starter-pack...

if it feels like this place has the juice recently it's because the stats bear that out.

getting banned from r/ratm for referring to the band as "audioslave with zack de la rocha"

the OTHER thing about the white house’s anti-diversity push is that like old fashioned segregation it is explicitly an effort to undermine unions! like c’mon! don’t be stupid!

Another new one from me. A point-in-time count has found growing homelessness in Nelson. Nearly all unhoused people are also longtime residents of the city. www.nelsonstar.com/local-news/p...

The CEO of Sheertex says she's had to temporarily lay off 40 per cent of the company's staff, in part because of tariffs the U.S. has promised to place on Canadian goods. www.thecanadianpressnews.ca/business/she...

Scarcity behind the medals. Canada's national sport organizations running deficits. Last core funding increase was 2005. My Canadian Press Sports report, Adrian Wyld photo. shorturl.at/IxXNF

Your Toronto Raptors have a 39-37 lead a little over four minutes into the second quarter.... and Scottie Barnes has yet to score a point. He's 0 for 5 on field goals, including 0 for 3 from three-point range

The Treasury Department right now. People are turning out against Musk and DOGE staging a takeover of the Treasury’s payment system. This crowd is big. The whole block is packed. “Lock him up,” everyone yells.

For the first time this week, Raptors fans did not boo the U.S. national anthem. There did seem to be more cheers and more people singing for "O Canada," however. Also, loud cheers each time the word "free" was sung

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

Not for nothing but everyone realizes that these teenagers and 20 somethings who have complete access to the Treasury payment source code are now #1 espionage recruitment targets for Russia and China, right?

B.C. Coroners Service announces 2,253 people died from toxic drug poisoning in 2024. That means 16,328 people have been killed since the provincial government declared the drug crisis in 2016.

This time last year the Toronto Raptors' rebuild was in full swing. Now that they're one of the hottest teams in the NBA, it looks like they might stand pat at Thursday's NBA trade deadline even though the rebuild was supposed to continue into this year ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/unclear...

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines. The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds. It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.

One of my party facts is that according to polls, Americans believe foreign aid is about 25% of the federal budget and on average that it *should* be about 10%. The actual number is less than 1%. Foreign aid has long been a boogey man of the right, so it's not surprising they're vilifying it now.

The Toronto Raptors are, somehow, one of the hottest teams in the NBA right now. They've won eight of their past 10 games thanks, in part, to a tougher defence that has limited four of their opponents to fewer than 100 points ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/raptors...

Jasmine Crockett: "The problem is that Americans thought it was okay to take a full fledged criminal and make him the President of the US and then they want to act aghast when he does criminal things. Let me tell you, we have a thug in charge of the US and if we don't wake up we may not have a US"

Canadian sports fans are literally voicing their displeasure at the trade war sparked by U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to raise tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico. @gks.bsky.social and I wrote about Raptors and Canucks fans booing the U.S. anthem ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/toronto...

Immanuel Quickley just went to the Raptors locker room with more than six minutes left in the third quarter. No word on what that's about

Pritzker: "He promised he was gonna lower costs & make us safer. He's done none of it. I realize he's only been in office 2 weeks, but it's gotten worse, not better. You think grocery prices have gone down? No, they've gone up bc of what he's threatening or what he's already put in place"

It's good that there's a 25% tarriff on imported coffee now. This will incentivize people to purchase American coffee, grown in the New Jersey coffee forests
