Scores of federal workers w/ disabilities were let go in last week's "Valentine's Day Massacre." Here's a story about the pain, anger and bewilderment I heard from so many people this week. @statnews.com #disability www.statnews.com/2025/02/21/l...

Please read and share. But especially share with folks that might not realize how critical Section 504 is to so many people. I tried to write a simple clear explanation at the break. I hope it reaches some people who aren't already on our side. Gift link: www.startribune.com/why-are-repu...

And yet, so many Republicans and #antivaxxers have demonized #mRNA #vaccines. #cancer

Several good things are happening according r/fednews so I am going to drop them here. If federal workers are fighting back, how much more us? A thread/

Don't forget, the cruelty is the point. The suffering is the point. As long as we are suffering and just barely *not* surviving they can maintain their power. time.com/7260543/medi...

Telehealth isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. For many of my patients with Long COVID and disabilities, in-person visits are exhausting, inaccessible, or simply not feasible. Removing telehealth coverage means denying care to those who need it most. We must protect access to virtual care.

I don't get personal on main very often, but I spent a few hours writing this, and I want you to read it. It's about my dad and my stepmom, and me, and Stranger Things, and what's happening to the VA right now. www.cheriepriest.com/blog/the-dep...

I have been asked to present a talk about the future of accessibility. But I feel obliged to talk about the future we face if this current dismantling of our rights succeeds. Because we know what that world will look like -- we have only to look to the past. make4all.org/2025/02/21/w...

Build something. A group, a community, a resistance, a support, a plan, a vision. Anything, for any problem. And if you don’t have the energy, rest up, so you can join later. If you can’t rest, pace yourself. We need you well, to stay in the fight. Peace will come later, because we’ll fight for it.

BREAKING: The Trump administration has announced that it will kill Medicare coverage of most telehealth services on April 1st.

Today these people are deported on military planes to Panama, meanwhile any Afrikaner is automatically accepted as a refugee

Did Panama agree to build and run Trump’s concentration camps so he’d stop talking about seizing the canal?

Trans rights are human rights, and we will fight for them. Always.

NEW: San Francisco AIDS Foundation leads a group of nonprofits suing Trump and others over anti-trans, anti-diversity EOs. @lambdalegal.bsky.social is representing the groups, who are seeking to have the orders and efforts to implement them declared "unlawful and unconstitutional."

Late yesterday, Trump issued an executive order that terminates HHS's Long COVID advisory committee. The committee's focus was bringing perspectives from outside government to inform action of the Executive Branch on Long COVID and other infection-associated chronic conditions.

Disability advocates. It’s time to speak up. Medicaid cuts will be devastating. We count on these funds for stability for our children. elink.autismspeaks.org/m/1/80706648...

Five major airlines—American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and United—have joined an airline trade association lawsuit to overturn a Department of Transportation rule that forces airlines to treat wheelchair users and their mobility devices with dignity.

I had, as it turns out, a voluminous quantity of words to say about the National Endowment for the Arts demanding fealty to Trump in their new grant guidelines (with side tangents into Robert Mapplethorpe, the Eight of Swords in tarot, compliance and resistance, and why budgets are moral documents)

I spent a few days putting this together--the labor of trying to document, and counter, problematic narratives is what I could give, since I have had very high symptoms last few days. make4all.org/2025/02/18/a...

Was digging into data about the number of k-12 students currently benefiting from 504 accommodations. I found 2017 state by state enrollment and school attendance data. ocrdata.ed.gov/assets/downl... and nces.ed.gov/programs/dig... and the nationwide average is 2.6%, but Texas is *highest* at 6.1%.

A call for courage, and for those of us in Academia to start local and use our voices.

Some common themes in the responses: 1. It's great to be funny in alt text! The goal is to represent what's in the image, but you can do so humorously. 2. People who got here from Twitter yesterday genuinely might not know how to use alt text. I see a lot of ppl mistaking lack of skill for malice. 🧵

Seattle folks: I'm giving a (free) public lecture Feb 24, where I'll explain what our team's decade of research on online rumors & disinformation reveals about the once-alternative media ecosystem that is driving the rise of right wing populism around the world. www.washington.edu/facultystaff...

Trans rights are human rights. This is like the lynching of Matthew Shepard and I hope it leads to a similar awakening among people of conscience. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/n...

Watching two court cases right now that are attacking aspects of 504. These cover a broad range of issues from including gender dysphoria as a disability to standards of proof of discrimination. We must fight these attacks. www.motherjones.com/politics/202... www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

We've been saying DEI includes diversity for a while. Now Trump's DEIA finally includes Accessibility. It's critical that we continue the push to recognize both the positives, and fight the negatives of DEIA together with all affected communities. substack.com/home/post/p-...

Well designed metrics are critical to understanding what is happening. Common metrics about the economy don't match middle and low income lived experiences. Here's why: www.politico.com/news/magazin... This especially impacts many disabled people www.kff.org/medicaid/iss...

We are getting reports that disabled employees of the federal government who have already established reasonable accommodations on the basis of disability will have to reapply for those accommodations, and that the **agency head** will make the final determination

Once again politicians are trying to control our bodies and our healthcare choices. Let doctors guide and patients decide!

For the past year, @fractalecho.bsky.social & I have been trying to understand what the shifting meaning of "accessible," from something democratic to something disabled means as public access is increasingly being revoked.
