this report from media matters is fucking wild. fox news has aired 424 segments about trans athletes since feb 5. the week democrats vetoed the GOP trans sports ban bill, they aired 59 segments. www.mediamatters.org/fox-news/fox...

Heightened Scrutiny, a very good doc about the Supreme Court case that was just ruled on, does an impeccable and infuriating job laying out just how culpable the NYT and Atlantic are for the nation’s transphobia www.avclub.com/sundance-202...

Thousands of people at the No Kings rally in Portland. Stay tuned to the @portlandmercury.com for more throughout the day.

Making my signs for Saturday's NO KINGS protest today. Be brave, be safe, be peaceful, my friends. And show up in massive fucking numbers.

'...most people experienced the fall of the Roman Empire as, “One day a bridge collapsed, and no one came to fix it.”'

Couldn't agree more with this. It's jaw-dropping to see the patty cake people are playing with him after what was a full constitutional assault that, oh by the way, is almost certainly going to lead to tens of thousands of people in the global south dying needlessly.

We're still 2.5 weeks out from #NoKings and we are at *1200* events scheduled nationwide (and also in Canada and Europe). Trump wants a nice military parade for his birthday. We're going to make sure all he sees are photos of a much larger turnout of Americans telling him to fuck off.

In light of the discourse, I’m boosting a piece I wrote recently about why Democrats should focus on changing public opinion rather than chasing it.

Today I proposed two amendments to the Republican budget reconciliation bill to 1) protect access to reproductive health care and 2) protect our federal workforce & SNAP. Republicans tried to sneak this bill through in the dead of the night. Dems have been here since 1am holding up the bill.

A story about why Democrats are losers, in four parts.

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.

Hey look at the government-supported research saving babies. That was nice. [gift link] www.nytimes.com/2025/05/15/h...

I wrote about Trump's ostensible plan to tax the rich, and how the media bites on his propaganda.

A man pulled up to a gas station to fill up his truck. ICE agents surrounded him and took him away. But his children were left behind. “They arrested someone,” witness said. “They left the children inside the truck.” www.sfgate.com/centralcoast...

maga centrists / woke right What do words mean?

I'M GONNA KEEP ON DANCIN AT THE

Time to catch up on the past week’s news about science and medicine in the US. Whew. 1/10

I think he saw a hot cylon in a red dress

Just saw “George Santos” and thought maybe he was the new Secretary of Defense

The Vietnam War's Operation Rolling Thunder remains the longest bombing campaign in US history. But what is 864,000 tons of explosives, really? It's 202 IKEA parking lots full of pickup trucks. 15 Titanics. Try to wrap your head around the scale of war: www.theverge.com/cs/features/...

In case you don’t know yet, four of our greatest congressional fighters are in El Salvador right now. I knew this was coming. I didn’t know it was coming without us knowing before it happened. I don’t see a lot of people talking about this yet, so I hope this post changes that 🧵

Yall wanna hear something extremely embarrassing? Before Trump’s election, a bunch of academics who lumbered rightward after being criticized by the left (Pinker, Dawkins, Krauss) wrote essays for a book that is coming out in July about the threats to academia from the left. YALL, THE TITLE!!

This is asinine. “They look down on you because you live in rural America!” is a right-wing myth and Democrats’ policies are objectively better for working class white people than Republicans’. These people aren’t victims of ‘both parties,’ they’re victims of propaganda.

The student paper at the college at which I teach reports a "tsunami of takedown requests" from international students terrified of being targeted for innocuous, legitimate op-eds & opinions.. Many ask in person--leave no trace in writing. Reminds me of my father's account of studying in the USSR.

This, from the Holocaust Memorial Museum.

I called my senators and US rep and told them to join Van Hollen on his trip to El Salvador and bring back the people who have been wrongly imprisoned in those concentration camps. Call your reps and tell them the same thing if you feel similarly. Find your reps here: reps.fyi

There is an AMAZING story to be written about Korean managers trying to deal with the local workforce in the new factories built in Alabama and Georgia. Been chatting with a couple of them and it's enough to dispel any idea of manufacturing revival in this country.

THREAD: The Trump administration's DOJ has removed a study from the NIJ website that found that immigrants, and particularly undocumented immigrants, commit crimes at significantly lower rates than U.S. citizens. The study is at odds with the Trump regime's propaganda about immigrants & crime. (1)
