Join us on March 7 for this month's seminar. @jdcrawford.bsky.social @bjorges.bsky.social @connectedminds.bsky.social @yorkuniversity.bsky.social #neuroscience

This might explain the mysterious pains you've been feeling lately. www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty...

I've decided to stick with Tump's original name.

𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀? If interested in brain dynamics this one is a feast! www.nature.com/articles/s41... #neuroscience

It's flag day, eh. Not too late to get yer leaf up.

Excellent article

Postdocs Ben Corrigan and Björn Jörges presented their work last Friday at CIAN. @bjorges.bsky.social @jdcrawford.bsky.social @connectedminds.bsky.social

I'm seeing fewer posts about the Trump/Musk attacks on science in mainstream social media. Its time for scientists to realize they can't hide from the world.

Definition of a PI: someone who spends half their time writing grants, and the other half administrating the grants they already have. Who has time for research?

Registration is now open for the CAN-ACN satellite "New Frontiers in Integrative Neuroscience." Registration is free, limited to 100 attendees. Abstracts will be accepted until April 1 or the program is full, whichever comes first. More information and registration: yorku.ca/research/cia...

Here’s my statement as Lead for @whrcluster.bsky.social on the importance of studying women’s health- (& the importance of within & across sex & gender investigations) for our best chance at precision medicine womenshealthresearchcluster.com/learn/womens...

I tell my students that half of science is problem solving. But in publications, we usually only report the solutions.

RONALD REAGAN (1988): We should be aware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends, weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world—all while cynically waving the American flag.

Incredibly moving Justin Trudeau remarks: "We have fought and died alongside you....During your darkest hours...we were always there. Standing with you, grieving with you, the American people....Canadians are a little perplexed as to why our closest friends and neighbors are choosing to target us."

It's simple: Trump's strategy is to use tariffs to pay for his corporate tax cuts (which are set to expire). The lies (e.g., Fentanyl crossing northern border, other countries will pay) are distractions. He does not want his base to know they are paying for the rich. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

As if there wasn’t enough to worry about… It turns out the Salience (SAL) and Parietal Memory Networks (PMN) are the same thing! 😩😩😩 🧵

Working memory works better when neural activity is transient, rather than persistent. No wonder the brain does it that way. Recurrent neural networks with transient trajectory explain working memory encoding mechanisms www.nature.com/articles/s42... #neuroscience

Neural specialization for ‘visual’ concepts emerges in the absence of vision www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

(1/5)📢Now with bonus experiment!📢Somatosensory cortex and body representation. When hand representation is modified by introducing a conflict between visual and proprioceptive cues, the motor system receives updates directly from primary somatosensory cortex (SI). www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

NIRS-BIDS: Brain Imaging Data Structure Extended to Near-Infrared Spectroscopy www.nature.com/articles/s41... BIDS supports dozens of neuroimaging modalities, this paper extends BIDS to NIRS data and details tools to organise data with the goal of promoting public disseminations of fNIRS datasets 👍

Sad news from MIT BCS - I count myself very lucky to have taken 9.01 (Intro to Neuroscience) from Dr. Schneider and I still have my drawings of the Shmoo brain! bcs.mit.edu/news/profess...

FYI, Canadian universities are now in early stages of recruiting for these positions: www.cerc.gc.ca/home-accueil...

If you use BOLD based fMRI in your research, take a moment to wish Seiji Ogawa a happy 91st birthday on Sunday, Jan 19th. His research launched thousands of careers and provided an invaluable to look inside our brains.

Very cool paper by Emily Oby and colleagues: www.nature.com/articles/s41... Interesting insights into the flexibility (or lack thereof) of neural dynamics for motor control

now that's just cool.
