Oscar Best Picture #26: "From Here To Eternity" (1953) Star-crossed lovers in the months before Pearl Harbor. The famous beach scene disappoints. Too short and ends with an argument because Burt Lancaster's character (ONLY in that ONE scene) is a jealous, whiny little baby. Still... Movie Star!

"Better Man", the Robbie Williams biopic with him as a chimpanzee is amazing. I thought the chimpanzee thing would be too gimmicky and the story (fame -> destruction -> redemption) would be too familiar. But it all works - and the dance numbers are fantastic!

Oscar Best Picture #24: "An American In Paris" (1951) A sort-of love triangle in post-war Paris punctuated with song and dance. All fluff - but huge and grand on large stages. If only Gene Kelly played a singer instead of a painter, we could make this into a weird prequel to Xanadu.
